Nancy G. Brinker responds to landslide of criticism aimed at Susan G. Komen charity

Nope, I woke up this morning and I am still outraged.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/01/nancy-g-brinker-responds-to-landslide-of-criticism-aimed-at-susan-g-komen/

News that Susan G. Komen for the Cure planned to halt all grants to Planned Parenthood caused an uproar over the past two days, prompting the charity’s founder to address the issue in a video uploaded to YouTube and Facebook.

(snip)

Brinker responded to those critics on Wednesday night, saying the charity would “never bow to political pressure.”

“The scurrilous accusations being hurled at this organization are profoundly hurtful to so many of us who have put our heart, soul, and lives into this organization,” she said. “But more importantly, they are a dangerous distraction from the work that still remains to be done in ridding the world of breast cancer.”

Non-denial denial. Hurtful, distraction. They would never bow to pressure because they were part of the right wing applying the pressure. They were just looking for an excuse, making their own excuses.

Planned Parenthood may do just fine without them. Keep donating to them directly.

Komen's true color has shown through, and it ain't pink.

Some of us have been aware for years of what a RW money-making machine they've been, but have been attacked for saying so. They are run by a bunch of pretty extreme RW women, and give very, very little money to actual research. I'm very glad their true colors have finally shown thrown the cutesy pink.

It's always pissed me off that they co-opted the breast cancer awareness movement and really took away from true fundraising and education.

4. Oh boy--instead of saying "Shit, we fucked up" she's playing the "You hurt my feelings" card.

Where's my damn checkbook? I think I need to make out a check to Planned Parenthood today. This nonsense is really pissing me off.

She looks like she's ready to cry--what, is her salary a percentage of the gross? She's the walking, talking definition of "scurrilous" and she oughta be ashamed of herself.

5. So, what is the new strategy? More money to sue anyone who says "for the cure"?

9. I will never again view the "pink" as a positive reminder of the fight against breast cancer.

Instead, it's become just another symbol of right wing corporate greed that benefits a few. I am looking forward to further scrutiny of the organization and it's financial dealings.

As far as a those foundations or corps having a "big" heart... a friend wrote: "I'll see your cynicism one step further, and suggest that the philanthropy is just cheap marketing for them. Branding themselves do-gooders so that the sheep will keep their bleating directed at other things. As to the crumb-licking Republican underlings, I think they're a pretty even mix of people who just live for the impossible dream of joining their ranks and true believers."

IMO, if all the money spent donating were paid into the tax system, our government could take care of all citizens health needs and research

They are a bunch of RW nutjobs, and have been itching to do this. THEY themselves are the "political pressure."

1. Tell the truth, but tell it in a way no one believes it.
2. Tell the truth, but not all of it.

Sound like she combined both methods with the standard R one of playing the victim.
