The people of Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island) are not gone.

This is a bit of a long vid, but I found it very valuable. Our John Osorio introduces Rapa Nui activist and artist Santi Hirorangi at Moana Nui 2011 here in Honolulu recently http://moananui2011.org/?page_id=745

Chile is really oppressing the people terribly. Rapa Nui people are still here- very much so!

(Wonder if any of them still speak their Polynesian language, and how close it is to 'olelo Hawai'i, etc.)

I heard some of the 'olelo in 180 Degrees South. It's pretty easy to understand, lots of cognates.

Aloha e Kama'aina!

The islands were devastated by overconsumption. It's literally a living parable of eco-unfriendliness and its consequences.

That said, why can't Chile just leave them alone?
