]
The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.
Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.
Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer . Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.
Yes, Happy Dance!!!!
people take note . . . speak up loudly and often.

(13,598 posts)If the response to decisions like this is positive, other companies in similar positions will think "yes, we have something to gain by giving in".
If it is negative, they won't.
Komen has, in the end (or at least, for now), done the right thing, and this should be acknowledged.

(102,236 posts)That does not mean that they will not find another way to avoid funding PP in the future. My guess is that the RW VP and Brinker have done a wink wink nod nod to the RWers who pushed to end PP funding to begin with.
I still remain highly skeptical... Koman has lots to answer for over the years, in terms of how they have spent their money. Those questions remain.

(9,681 posts)I still won't donate to them, they had to be shamed into doing the right thing? My money still goes straight to planned parenthood.
No PINK stuff for me!
"We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair. "
...back to the original lie, huh?
Dishonesty to the end.

(10,960 posts)They almost made it though the statement without lying.
"We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood."
See, that's not a lie. They have been distressed by the presumption.
"They were not."
Bull.

(17,162 posts)The people have seen you as you are- support for your Foundation
will always be questioned by we, the people.
I say we march forward with a NEW logo for Breast Cancer Awareness.
It's use by corporations will signify support for PP.
Corporations who continue to affiliate their products with pink ribbons, thus
the Komen Foundation need to feel a boycott by the public.
