Someone has pumped this poor little girl full of shit. Guns laws will NOT keep her from shooting, practicing, or competing. There are still hundreds of guns she can use. Just because she can't transport her beloved bushmaster, she's playing the victim? What a load of crap!
"Achieving stricter gun control laws would obliterate any opportunity I could have had to attend a decent college on a shooting scholarship," she says.

Magazine capacity is determined by the rules of a given competition.
So what if it's a Bushmaster? It is merely a rifle.

(3,731 posts)Maybe she likes her hobby? Why do you care? Is she harming you? Has she harmed anyone else?
How do you know she doesn't have other hobbies other that competitive shooting?
And you have no idea on what her party affiliation is.

(54,770 posts)And, yes her political affiliation - or that of her parents - is obvious.

Our party hates when others stereotype people based on a lot of things. Yet we do so to gun owners all of the time.

(22,920 posts)Maybe someone here can answer it.
Early in the video she insinuates that if gun control measures had been in place, she couldn't have gotten her scholarship.
I don't understand what measures -- short of confiscation which no one is talking about -- would have prevented her sports scholarship.

(22,920 posts)In your opinion, is that what she was referring to? The belief by many gun owners that ANY gun control measures will inevitably lead to confiscation?
slackmaster
(60,567 posts)Why shouldn't she be able to select a firearm that works for her?

(22,920 posts)I've always wanted to use that line (thrown out ad nauseum about everything by right-wing family/friends my entire life).
But I do believe it applies here. That's my opinion.

(11,417 posts)your guns away. It's time to stop using that meme. This girl like so many gunners blows everything out of proportion. More people want laws designed to reduce gun violence than want guns.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)NRA simply used her, and fave her the familiar talking points and told her to whine. Her dad probably profits from guns.

(18,752 posts)There have been several proposals for confiscation that are more than internet hyperbole:
California-SB 249
Minnesota- H.F. No. 241
Missouri- House Bill 545
Oregon- HB 3200
Washington- SENATE BILL 5737
I did not do an exhaustive search so there may be proposals in other states.
Each bill contained provisions requiring owners of one or more defined types of guns to remove, render inoperable, or turn in for destruction, currently owned guns. Details of compensation were not mentioned, or "would be worked out later"
It appears her issue is in transporting guns across state lines for practice and competition. I do not know the details of the law and how it would affect her.

(5,624 posts)have to use a bolt action .22 to make holes in paper targets instead of a semi-auto .223.
I work in a college, and a big one too that probably grants "shooting scholarships". If I want to make holes in a piece of paper, my office has an electric hole punch that punches 3 holes at once. And staples too. I could care less about target shooting. I don't want some madman coming in and using one of the tools of her "sport" to murder me and my co-workers.
My advice to her is what my dad used to tell me: complain in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.

rifle competition and offer scholarships? I doubt it. Maybe skeet.
The girl is full of it, glad legislators weren't swayed by this young right wing tool, who says she wants to run for Congress someday.

4 marksmanship scholarships.
3 of them the whopping sum of $1000 per semester (nothing to sneeze at, but I bet the ammo cost more!). And one of those had an ROTC requirement. Two of them were state-specific.
Much more prolific were scholarships from the NRA and others for essays, public speeches and presentations, and the like in favor of guns, etc.
Hmmmm. Looks to me like her speech was her application for a scholarship.
