I, however, am not resigned to him becoming president-elect in 2024.
But if you don't want this to appear in the news in early 2025...
I suggest claiming complacency to be a cardinal sin, reject the idea of sitting this one out, and as for "keeping the powder dry"? Not going to do that.
And you might want to learn to fight a little dirty too.

(25,485 posts)The only reason he won in 2016 was that there were too many candidates in for too long. Had the GOP rallied behind one candidate early (as we did in 2020), no Trump. They won't let that happen again.
His approval ratings are tanking, including among Republicans. As more comes out about the insurrection and his involvement, they will continue to drop and all but the diehards will bail on him and move on to the next shiny object. That doesn't even touch on the coming civil and (likely) criminal cases.
From the GOP's standpoint, today was the best of both worlds. They got to shirk responsibility, thus not incurring the wrath of Trump's most fervent wackos (and Trump himself), and they protected their jobs and the party. They'll now directly and indirectly support prosecution, hoping that someone nails his ass. If that doesn't work, they'll do whatever else they can to cut him off at the knees.

(7,860 posts)wasn't a gift so much as a "now shut the fuck up and go away" un-invite...I think Mitch and his nothing-to-see-here band of cowards are more afraid of Trump's lunatic mob coming to their homes than they are of Trump...

My prediction: he is going to fade physically. And fast.

(7,860 posts)he's done..he's lost his bully pulpit, his twitter privileges, and his relevance..and here's the thing...Trump's band of seditionist psychopaths will gradually peel off because he can no longer legitimize their hate...

(32,082 posts)There were no end of predictions of an early death. Many people really believe what they eat is perfect and anything that deviates will lead to a short and miserable life.

He will NOT be elected in 2024. We and others will make certain of this.

(32,095 posts)Have you seen the recent photos of him? He's gained a ton of weight since leaving office. His bout with COVID-19 almost killed him, and he is likely a long-hauler. His cardiovascular system is already compromised from a lifetime of drug abuse, junk food consumption, and lack of exercise, so the damage COVID likely has done to it has created a ticking time bomb. He's likely diabetic, too. Add to that the stress from the dozens of criminal and civil investigations he's facing. If he doesn't have a heart attack or another stroke, it will be a miracle. Not to mention that he has been showing signs of dementia or Alzheimer's (for which he has a family history.) The odds of him being in any shape to run again are nearly extremely low. And, that's if he manages to keep his bloated ass out of prison.

(9,132 posts)I think a lot of Donnies sleazy political and business doings are going to get investigated during the next 4 years.
Also, I genuinely wonder about his health. I would not be surprised if his poor diet and lack of exercise catches up with him.
Also, just how mentally fit will he be in 2024? He might be heading for senility.
