I just received a very nasty email from a RW friend in Fla. It stated as fact that "this 25 year old guy wasn't marrked byt had 9 children, and was collecting $11,000 a month!" I don't think that's possible, and I want to send her proof that it's not! I'm so sick of getting this kind of thing, and if I continue to delete them without a response, these idiots will keep on believing this rot.

If I just write back and say that's BS, it's not good enough and theyu just tell me that I'm wrong.

7. There is this amazing notion out there

that people on welfare are living the good life, that they have it easy, collect lots of money and don't work.

I don't know off the top of my head what the various benefits actually are, but I know that they aren't all that terrific. People on welfare are generally struggling, to say the least.

If you're a single mom with several young children you may have more cash income on welfare then you'd have in a minimum wage job, but that's mostly a reflection of how truly awful minimum wage is.

Disability is the same thing. Most people have no clue how very little they would actually get if the retire on disability. Several years ago I was a paralegal for an attorney who did Social Security Disability appeals. That is, her clients were people who'd already been turned down once for SSDI, and she was now guiding them through the appeal. She only took those cases she was very certain would win. Invariably the stories her clients had were truly heart-rending. And the amount of money they'd finally be getting was basically a pittance.

I am very glad that I'm healthy and still able to work. Even though I don't earn a great deal, I have my independence.

10. Believe me, I know about SSDI.

My cousin was married to a Psychologist who had his own practice. He had diabetes, and got too ill to work anymore. Even had a pancrease transplant about 12 years ago. He wenyt on SSDI and his wife couldn't work because she had to care for him. The cost of the meds he took was astronomical! He took 22 pills at one time, 4 times each day! They did qualify for section 8 housing, but even though his check was $1,800/mo. after he paid for his meds, there was very little left. They got food stamps of a whopping $12 a month! I klnow his wife told me they hit the "doughnut hole" in February each year! but even then, meds aren't free! He passed away last year.

I had a friend in NJ with two severely disabled children. Her husband worked full
time yet with medical costs so high they received substantial help from the government.
They lived below the poverty line with none of the extras unless friends and family
kicked in. Repukes would look at the gross $$$ figure they received and think they know the entire story.

Loves to paint this picture that all who are on welfare are not only either on drugs or lazy, but that they vote Democrat and idolize President Obama.

The people I know that receive public assistance think President Obama is terrible.
