Disney also made a movie about a horse diver back in the 1990s.

Recently the co-star of "Burn Notice."

Ah, internet. I knew nothing of any of this when I woke up, and will likely forget it all before bed.

I happen to train horses for a living. You would not BELIEVE the number of otherwise intelligent people who will tell you that a horse wouldn't do something if they didn't want to. They seem to forget the whole purpose of TRAINING. Horses like to hang out with other horses and eat grass. They do not like to have leather things strapped to their back and then have people climbing all over them and then be told to jump over stuff or run around stuff or walk, trot and canter for hours. Nope, they pretty much like to hang out with other horses and eat grass. But they are tolerant animals and easily impressed, so they will do what they are told when conditioned to respond a certain way. And it is up to the humans doing the telling to make sure that they never tell them to do something that can hurt or frighten them. Which is why I do not condone 100 mile endurance races, three day eventing or horse racing or the inhumane bullshit that is mentioned in the OP.
