General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe last week is THE ARGUMENT against Republicanism.....
Union thugs saving lives. Saving a city. CITIZENS helping out and gathering together and using information to help with the investigations.
The fact the guy who lost his legs and then identified the terrorist, ahving to hold a bake sale to pay for it is also a great argument against their policies on health care. How many of those hurt will also now be bankrupt due to the higher medical costs, no insurance, is certainly a case against for profit Healthcare.
Then there is Texas. The republican mantra of de regulate and strangle the Gov't killed 15 people. No inspections since 85. Illegal storage of explosive chemicals. Corner cut,a nd a town wiped off the map. And the Rick Perry, who hates government is asking for federal dollars to rebuild the town.
I've been trying to do this to people when discussing the weeks events. And they are all going yeah you are right...... I think eyes are opening.

(1,941 posts)WWII should have been the argument against authoritarians and cults of personality.
We may well see fervor cool for a time. I would be grateful for that. But every new generation brings fresh dunces to believe in stupid shit.

(10,440 posts)In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday, Jeff Baumans image was seared into the American consciousness. An extremely graphic photo of Bauman being escorted in a wheelchair with most of his legs blown off quickly went viral. Baumans stock rose even further after reports surfaced that he had looked into the eyes of one of the bombing suspects minutes before the explosion, and that the moment he awoke from emergency care, he gave law enforcement critical information that substantially narrowed their field of suspects. But while police continue to scour the streets for at-large suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 27-year-old Bauman is scouring the internet for donations to help pay for his outsized medical bills.

(2,515 posts)All the ill-advised 'hoping' that the bombers would be white American home grown bombers. And they turned out to be Islamic Jihadists.
Game over right there - you lose the audience.
Again, you are right, but by hoping for home grown white bombers it leads to the incorrect assumption that the left is the radical side for jihadists.

There is no way to ever get them to accept reality as valid.

(8,007 posts)Could not be more compelling. It is why our Founding Fathers had a change of heart when they developed the Constitution creating a strong central government but with protections to prevent that strong central government from having dictatorial control with a Bill Of Rights for ordinary citizens.

The case for going to war in Afghanistan was compelling. The case for going to war in Iraq was non-existent.
