Eastwood Calls ‘Halftime in America' in Chrysler Super Bowl Ad

http://news.businessweek.com/article.asp?documentKey=1376-LYYFH30YHQ0X01-6L45LOI7FIEIOMKR1NMQLP9JEL

The spot may have special resonance in an election year where the economy and job growth are key themes of Republican criticisms of President Barack Obama.

“If it wasn't for the bailout packages, Chrysler and GM would probably not be around,” Jesse Toprak, a Santa Monica, California-based analyst at TrueCar.com, said in an interview. “Now they're adding capacity to plants, adding more production, and the best-case scenario has come to fruition. This was a commercial to remind people what has happened.”

...The closest Eastwood came to addressing the political environment was in describing “the fog of division, discord and blame.” America will have to find its way through the tough times, he said....

“Detroit's showing us it can be done,” he said. “This country can't be knocked out with one punch. We get right back up again and when we do, the world is going to hear the roar of our engines.”

Not directly about any one product, Chrysler vehicles only are shown in cameo shots.

It is about recovery.

"He usually describes himself as a libertarian in interviews, fiscally conservative yet socially liberal."
Yet:
"He considers himself too individualistic to be either right-wing or left-wing, and has described himself as a "political nothing" and a "moderate"

His Dirty Harry films were a backlash against Progressives and Liberals. He wasn't just making movies when he did those movies.

But the GOP have become incessant whiners about President Obama and try to portray themselves as always being victimized. That's just my opinion though.

Chrysler Super Bowl Ad Features Wisconsin Union Rally, but Edits Out Union Signs

The one truly stunning ad on Super Bowl night was a moving two-minute Chrysler commercial featuring actor Clint Eastwood. Aired at half-time, the ad hailed the renewal of the American automobile industry and featured images of union firefighters and factory workers,

At the fifty-second point in the ad, images from last year’s mass pro-union protests in Madison, Wisconsin, were featured.

But something was missing: union signs.

The images from Madison were taken from a historic video by Matt Wisniewski, a Madison photographer whose chronicling of the protests drew international attention and praise. Wisniewski’s work went viral, and was even featured in a video by rocker Tom Morello.
