Teachers Shocked, Frightened After School Holds Unplanned Shooting Drill

HALFWAY, Ore. (CBS Seattle/AP) — Teachers were shocked and caught off guard when an Oregon school held a school shooting drill.

The Oregonian reports Pine Eagle Charter School in Halfway held the drill last Friday as children were home for an in-service day. Two masked “gunmen” burst into a meeting room holding 15 teachers firing blanks. Teachers only realized it wasn’t a real shooting when none of them were bleeding.

“There was some commotion,” school principal Cammie DeCastro told The Oregonian.

Teachers were frightened about what happened.

“I’ll tell you, the whole situation was horrible,” Morgan Gover told the paper. “I got a couple in the front and a couple in the back.”

What is the point of terrifying your staff for no reason?

Off the rails. This whole country is off the fucking rails.

him or herself and others with some sort of lethal force?
Or, what if one or more of the teachers suffered shock or debilitating symptoms from the surprise?
The administrators, who planned this "drill" lack the skills to be making decisions about our children's educations. They are politicizing the work-place in a reactionary manner when they should be demonstrating critical thinking skills and using data and evidence to design their professional development sessions.

and that wasn't it. How awful to frighten people like that! I teach, and that would piss me off like I don't know what. (Btw, I have requested and have yet to see our school have a drill for that kind of emergency. I asked for it right after Christmas break, and nothing. I do not know what I'd do. There is only one exit door in my classroom and there are no closets. My gosh. I just want a plan.)

I do not know what I would have done. I do know I would have been very angry and maybe capable of things I wouldn't normally do.

This really happened?? I would have quit on the spot -- if I didn't die of a heart attack first. Somebody actually thought this was a good idea??
