Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer defense of his former bosss decision to open Gitmo to begin with.
We have it because these people did not even follow the law of war, let alone the rule of war, he said, adding, These people didnt even wear a military uniform. They engaged in battle against America as terrorists, a violation of the laws of war. Thats why Guantanamo got invented.
FLEISCHER: They (the Germans) followed the law of war. They wore uniforms and they fought us on battlefields. These people are fundamentally, totally by design different. And they need to be treated in a different extrajudicial system.

(36,988 posts)Spied upon by MI19 in a bugging operation of unprecedented scale and cunning, 4,000 German POW's revealed their inner thoughts about the Third Reich and let slip military secrets that helped the Allies win WWII. Based on groundbreaking research conducted by a German historian, the film tells the story of how those conversations were recorded and how they can now reveal, in more shocking detail than ever before, the hearts and minds of the German fighter. In total, more than 100,000 hours of these secret recordings were made.
Only now have they all been declassified, researched and cross referenced. They represent a startling new body of evidence with which to revisit events of the war and they show the political divisions between those top generals who supported the Nazi ideology and those that did not. They also demonstrate the complicity of the rank-and-file soldiers in taking part in Nazi war crimes. Now, 60 years later the chilling and totally uncensored thoughts of the Nazi elite will be heard. The documentary includes intense, full-dialogue dramatic reconstructions that use the verbatim transcripts of these bugged conversations to reveal the dark heart of the Nazi regime as never before. Hearing these shocking conversations will be like taking a time machine back into psyche of Hitlers Germany.
None were SS they were regular German army officers and soldiers discussing the war crimes they did to each other thinking they were not bugged. So they got more secrets out them than Gitmo ever did.
The English thought the method so effective of treating them good but recording everything that they kept the recordings secret for half a century. So none of the recordings and none of the prisoners were ever prosecuted for war crimes.
Fleisher is jewish which is even a bigger mind fuck for me.

(55,745 posts)The guy's a rightwing sleaze, willing to lie to keep his place at the servant's table. Remember one of his replacements, Dana Perino? She couldn't keep her mushroom clouds straight:
Wasn t that, like, the Bay of Pigs thing?
Thank you for the heads-up on the bugging op. We should do the same for the BFEE, were justice ever to return to the United States.

(52,489 posts)during the american revolution, colonists often their own clothes and hid in the shadows, taking pot shots at marching british troops, then running away.
the boston tea party was pretty much an act of terrorism, and there were certainly less orderly and civil acts of disobedience from the colonists.
whining about your vastly weaker enemy not wearing uniforms as a violation of the rules of war is incredibly self-serving. you want them to wear uniforms so you can press your advantage and end the war more efficiently.
real warriors accept the realities of war and do the best they can in the situation. if the enemy doesn't wear obvious uniforms, accept it and adapt accordingly.

For that matter the Eastern front where both sides were all but above reproach, or that the Einzgruppen, who committed atrocities, wore uniforms.
I can say now, ari Fleisher, a Jew...is a nazi lover. In the camps they had names for them, summarized in n word...capo
