The funny thing is that Hoekstra isn't even a native born American...

He was born in The Netherlands and immigrated to the states, just like my own Dutch born American citizen wife.

However, that's where the two cease being alike.

My wife, a woman of Dutch-Indonesian heritage, would never in a million years think of using another Asian-American woman as a tool for a racist political ad.

Unfortunately, sometime during Hoektra's life as an American, he decided that such a thing would be a great idea.

Between you and me, I have a feeling that the Dutch kicked his family out of Holland for being asses.

Even two members of my own family got sucked in, via marriage, to West Michigan, and all of the right wing crazy that it drags along with it. So, I try to just ignore that when they come, and make sure all of my DU bumper stickers, Clinton and Obama memorabilia, etc., is prominent in the house.

I remember back when I was at Michigan State in the mid-late 80's, there was a lot of controversy over Apartheid in S. Africa, and the Dutch Reform Church in Michigan was one of the organizations that, at that time, was still officially supporting Apartheid.

even Washington Irving noted them as being reactionary blockheads.
The old line Dutch families in NY hated Franklin Roosevelt for being a traitor to their group.
