2-Year-Old Fatally Shoots Himself In Texas

A 2-year-old boy died Wednesday after accidentally shooting himself in the head in the Texas town of Corsicana, the Associated Press reported.

The child reportedly found a handgun in a bedroom while his father was in another room.

This came a day after a Florida 3-year-old fatally shot himself with a gun belonging to his uncle, and a week after a 2-year-old girl in Kentucky died after reports that her 5-year-old brother accidentally shot her in the chest.

3. I wonder how many two-year-olds have been saved by a good guy with a gun.

Fewer than have been killed by a gun, I would venture to say.

5. Questions like that scare the crap out of the NRA; they banned the CDC from researching gun deaths

Stats prove having a gun in the house is not going to protect you; it will kill you. You're 43 times more likely to be killed by your own gun than by an intruder's. (Arthur Kellermann and Donald Reay. "Protection or Peril? An Analysis of Firearm Related Deaths in the Home." The New England Journal of Medicine, vol. 314, no. 24, June 1986, pp. 1557-60.)

You are unlikely to have an intruder. But you are very likely to get drunk, get depressed, get in a fight with someone in your house, or have your kid find your gun. That's how people get killed. Having a gun in the house makes it far more likely that you'll get your own head blown off. Having a gun in the house makes suicide 5 times more likely. http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/more-guns-more-suicides/
