It is my understanding that it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm in DC, that no permit exists to allow anyone, resident or not, to do so. So here's the question, and I ask it with reference to the 2,000-plus idiots who plan an armed march on the capital. Is the carrying of a loaded gun in DC a Felony?
If so those boys might want to give a little more thought to what it is they plan to do, cause playing with felonies not only has the ability to be life-style harmful but also tends to cost lots and lots of money.

His 'mission' has already been accomplished, given how much attention and publicity he's garnered....

(111,256 posts)because those old boys are good at swaggering and blustering but not real good at showing up to do anything, just ask their wives and kids.
I can see a handful of them in some parking lot in Alexandria shuffling their feet and wondering if that's all that's gonna turn up and throwing the rifle back into its rack and taking off quietly.
I just hope this is true, that enough of them don't actually turn up to make this a complete clusterfuck, although I'd love to see them face a line of tanks with their little popguns, just to give them a reality check.

(2,252 posts)... by the Second Amendment Foundation. Here's their press release: SAF SUES DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA OVER CARRYING OF HANDGUNS
BELLEVUE, WA The Second Amendment Foundation today filed a lawsuit on behalf of three residents of the District of Columbia and a New Hampshire resident, seeking to compel the city to issue carry permits to law-abiding citizens.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on behalf of Tom Palmer, George Lyon and Amy McVey, all District residents, and Edward Raymond, a New Hampshire resident. SAF and the individual plaintiffs are being represented by attorney Alan Gura, who successfully argued the landmark District of Columbia v. Heller case in 2008 that overturned the Districts handgun ban on the grounds that it was unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.
Once again, said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, were heading back to court because the anti-gun city administration refuses to abide by the law. It is beginning to appear like residents of the District are up against a rogue city government that simply does not want to ease its stranglehold on the most important civil right of all, the right of self-preservation.
The case docket shows the last activity was 2012-12-11.

(2,252 posts)No doubt if someone offered up suitable plaintiffs and sufficient funding the SAF would be more than happy to file suit against any gun related 'inconvenience'.

(56,582 posts)The city council under home rule can pass criminal laws but they all have to be taken up by the US Attorney for DC. At any rate, carrying a rifle (without menacing or brandishing, and without committing another crime) is a civil tort against the city that can yield a $1000 fine. Carrying a handgun is a felony.
