Message to the right-wingers: If you want to talk so openly and freely about impeaching President Obama, then it's important to remember who would succeed Obama as President...
THIS GUY!
Keep that in mind you crazy right-wingers, the next time you want to make a "big fucking deal" out of Benghazi and want to talk about impeaching Obama. Then you would have a man in office who, among other things:
Came out and supported gay marriage BEFORE President Obama did
Has had an "F" rating from the NRA throughout his years in public office
Is currently spearheading the effort for gun control, after voting in 1994 for the Assault Weapons Ban
Had a 100% rating from NARAL, Pro-Choice America
Authored the "Violence Against Women Act"
Blocked Robert Bork from the Supreme Court, as head of the Judiciary Committee
And most importantly, kicked little Eddie Munster's ass on national television in front of millions of people!
So, tell us liberals again how much you want to boot President Obama!

Activist: Biden Avowed Opposition to Keystone XL Pipeline
An environmental activist is claiming that Vice President Joe Biden personally told her he is "in the minority" inside the White House in opposing approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. Elaine Cooper says she spoke to Biden at a public event in South Carolina last week. Writing for the Sierra Club, Cooper said: "I asked him about the administrations commitment to making progress on climate and whether the president would reject the pipeline. He looked at the Sierra Club hat on my head, and he said, 'Yes, I do I share your views but I am in the minority.'" The news led a coalition of environmental groups to take out an ad reading: "Tell President Obama and Secretary Kerry: Joe Biden is Right." An anonymous official in Bidens office refused to comment directly on the reported exchange but said Bidens official position on the pipeline remains to await the final results of a State Department review.

thinking, and surrounding all is ratfucking and demo gouging. That is how they win both sides of the alleged political divide. They tell their followers on the right what a crook Obama is, what a weasel Pelosi and all the Democrats are, and in order to be mainstream, the Left agrees.
The 'both parties are the same' meme is a big one the right pushes, because it demoralizes Democrats, who honestly when all is said and done, the party of enlightened government. Not so with baggers and libertarians, they hate liberal government in its entirety as getting in their way. They know enlightened government that works, is a winner, so they nitpick everything, no matter how shallow or surreal.
But the GOP re-brands itself into a new version every two years or less. They have the money and media in their hands to brainwash us, as it's owned by a few conservative billionaires and used to promote their agenda every day.
That agenda is for the same result using the Right and the Left, but now there is a decreasing difference in the spin. They say government does not work and on the Right that spurs privatization and on the Left it spurs dropping out or going to the Libertarian with the same results.
Those of us in the uncomfortable middle are amused by the Right and given a knife in the back by the Left, and demoralized as we can't get out word out. DU is ratfucking central most days, since the media is our fodder as it is for all political forums and fails to educate, much less tell the truth about Obama or the Democratic Party platform.

(27,985 posts)but after enduring (yes, enduring) 4 years of Obama pretending to be a Democrat but behaving a lot more like a conservative, the thought of President Biden isn't nearly as frightening to me. But then, you weren't talking to me.

(27,985 posts)I've been paying so much attention it hurts. Obama has done some good and some bad and while as an individual, I think he's stellar, as a politician, I think he learned too much in Chicago. That he appointed Rahm Emanuel as his first COS was my first, but not my last confirmation of that.
This has been a hard decade and a half. I half thought I could stand down when we got Obama elected. I was, of course, wrong. The second time I voted for him, I voted for him with my eyes wide open. It's been much easier this time to watch him try to touch the third rail and do all of the things you would expect from a Republican. Yeah, we've had good days with this President, but we've also had bad days and on the whole, being better than Romney is an awfully low bar, don't you think? He achieves that but really, when you want a Wellstone, or a Frank or a Sanders, it gets hard to deal with the politician Obama. If he were as great a public servant as he is a politician, we would be watching the best Presidency ever. As is, we have our first black President and that's great but Obama is capable of so, so much more than having dark skin color and it frustrates me when he doesn't live up to that.
Instead of the rapid self destruction we saw under Bush, we're going over the cliff slower. Is that better? Maybe. Would President Biden be more of a Liberal? I think he might be.
But really, we all know this is a shot across the bow of SoS Clinton, whom the other side thinks is going to be our next nominee. They are already done with the next four years and looking forward to the next opportunity in the ring, so how happy or unhappy I may be with Obama is really quite tangential to the Benghazi Bullshit Ride.
Funny thing, I see SoS Clinton almost exactly as I now see Obama. She's a stellar person and there are few in the world smarter than her but her politics are too third way and I doubt her commitment to being a true public servant in the role of President (I delineated that because she was an awesome public servant as the SoS, one of the best ever) so she wouldn't be my first choice, but if she runs, she will be the one nominated and whatever disappointments lie ahead, she will also be better than whoever the other side puts up. They got nobody. So, as I did with Obama twice, I will vote for her. Everyone here will. At least this time, unlike 2008, when I was smitten and not as aware as I should have been, I will vote for her with my eyes open. I voted for Obama twice and it was only the second time that I did it with my eyes wide open
Now we can throw good and bad things that Obama has done, at each other until the cows come home and the reality is, we both have things we want and you may be getting more of what you want than I am. That's politics.
Oh, and thanks for your concern about my sleep. I've actually been getting a reasonable amount since I broke my shoulder. It hasn't changed Obama's essential corporate nature, but it has made me less moody about it.
IrishAyes
(6,151 posts)And I don't admire such cheap shots. But then consider the source... With friends like that, who needs enemies?
Politicub
(12,165 posts)You will never find perfection.
So you may as well pack it up and go home if that's your standard. Making the perfect the enemy of the good and all that.
And by many objective economic measures, things are improving. You may not wish to admit that, and that's your perogitive. But don't piss on us and tell us it's raining, okay?
tavalon
(27,985 posts)and if you call me a closet Republican, I will likely piss on myself laughing. I cant ROTFLMAO, because I have a broken shoulder.
I'm well aware I won't find perfection. But then perfection and "third way" are really miles apart, aren't they? We elected another DLC, third wayer and some of us, myself included, did not see that. I see it perfectly well now and I see it's the same with SoS Clinton. Biden isn't even as Liberal as I would like but he's miles further along that road than the person he serves at the pleasure of.
Do I hate Barack Obama? No, absolutely not. I suspect one day, he will be another Carter, at least I hope he will. Would that he would never go back to Chicago, as that place and it's politics destroyed much of what could have been great about this President. That I don't see him as the second coming may irk you, but it is what it is. I don't see Biden that way and most who are that way, are "not electable", "too idealistic" and blah, blah, blah. Elizabeth Warren would be someone I could stand behind knowing well that even she isn't as left as me.
I recognize there have been good things with this administration, just not nearly as great as they could have been. I still hold out hope, though little, that President Obama can carve out a legacy greater than his first four years suggest. Hell, if his watered down Romneycare ends up pushing us into universal health care, I won't even remember the drones or Guantanamo. It's likely that if this President does anything at all to Social Security (other than lifting the income limits for collection from the workers) I will always remember him as the most disappointing of all Democratic (?) Presidents. Likely, I will just remember him as mediocre, very much like Bill Clinton. Those were not bad years either, but he was third way, DLC too, and it showed. It will with his wife as well.
I don't believe the DLC/Third Way is in any way useful to our "team" nor do I see this as a team sport. These people are supposed to be serving the people and by people, I don't mean corporations. Most Republicans and far too many Democrats don't realize they are public servants and are busy serving only themselves and their next election.
