They were silent when the protests were taking place in Egypt the day before the attacks on the personnel in Benghazi. The general consensus was that the protests were over the anti-Muslim movie that was produced in the United States. It was a big story in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/12/world/middleeast/movie-stirs-protest-at-us-embassy-in-cairo.html?_r=0
Republicans said nothing. They knew nothing different.
Then when Benghazi was attacked the next day, the Republican candidate for President, Mitt Romney was taken to task for saying the President did not call it an act of "terror". In fact, the President did call it an act of terror in a speech in the Rose Garden and Mitt Romney looked foolish with his comments.
But Republicans do not want the "war on terror" to end because they see political advantage in it. It is they that are politicizing the tragedy in Benghazi. There is little doubt but that the White House tried to put the best spin on the event, just as every White House would do. However, the president's foreign policy credentials were very solid at the time and the Repubs were trying to erode the people's confidence in the President in that area, because they thought it would be to their advantage. That is why they are still pushing their conspiracy theories about Benghazi. They knew nothing different from what the NY Times reported but they wanted to make political hay.

Great post.

(45,788 posts)@ggreenwald: @billmon1 The GOP is obviously politically motivated - I'd say acting out of desperation for *something to use, but questions still valid
@ggreenwald: @billmon1 I don't think it's a scandal - I think it's something that, for several reasons, merits questions being asked with oversight.

(44,120 posts)White House has provided tons of info to Congress. Boehner couldn't be bothered to attend the briefings. If I know this, Greenwald knows it as well.
Perhaps he believes Rep Issa will "discover" something more?

(34,661 posts)by five of the riches people in the world, what do you expect. It's all about getting that Muslim Kenyan Dude out of their White House, and if you think differently, you are not living in the same world. People have to take a really hard look at their institutions that dictate their day to day living. Since the advent of the flame throwing Preachers, which really started around 1906,their has been a steady drum beat of hatred in American History. Yes,we have had from time to time small pockets of bigots and Cult Religions. Remember this, one person can only control about 150 people without help. Just plain human nature.
Same thing with the Rethug maggots. With out the Press they are screwed and tattooed. Who needs to sell newspapers? That's your answer. Notice the major drop that is being reported today. It's Broadcast T.V.. Cut the Cord is the new wave. DUH!!!
