How would dismantling the military industrial complex alter gun violence in the US?

I have a hunch that if we were to trace common social perception and acceptance of gun violence and gun usage, it would at least partly lead back to our obsession with war and tools of war.

After all, publicly marketable assault weapons were the brain children of the military industry.

This is why we absolutely need more funding for research into American gun violence. The fact that we don't already have answers to these questions is disturbing.
