Oh, and speaking of dumb: 74 percent of Republicans think Benghazi is worse than Watergate.
One interesting thing about the voters who think Benghazi is the biggest political scandal in American history is that 39% of them don't actually know where it is. 10% think it's in Egypt, 9% in Iran, 6% in Cuba, 5% in Syria, 4% in Iraq, and 1% each in North Korea and Liberia with 4% not willing to venture a guess.

(13,059 posts)Republicans. Only 49% of Democrats knew that it was in Libya whereas 60% of Republicans knew it was in Libya. I have maintained for some time that neither side of the political spectrum has a monopoly on stupidity.

(6,279 posts)Looking at their actual results, the nitwits who think this rates as a significant scandal are no worse at this bit of geography than any other group.
I also wonder how many people they polled could actually tell the pollster anything of substance about the scandals they were rating this against. I couldn't give you much information about Teapot Dome beyond the decade in which it occurred...

(18,184 posts)that 39% of people who are most riled up about it don't have a clue where it is.
If tea partiers are going to be angry, they should at least know what they're angry about.

(28,498 posts)The Republicans are.
It stands to reason that when you start throwing stones at your neighbor's house, you should know where it is.
After all, this "scandal" is bigger than Watergate!

(26,775 posts)If you ask people whether they think that the Braves or Redskins are the better baseball team and whether they care... it wouldn't be particularly important that many of the people who don't care also don't know that the Redskins don't play baseball.
It's the people arguing that it's important and that the Redskins are the better baseball team who should be embarrassed.

(13,059 posts)doesn't know where Benghazi is. Don't our schools teach geography?
FBaggins
(26,775 posts)Yes, I agree that geography education isn't what it once was... but few geography curricula would include more than the country's location and the name of the capital (in this case Tripoli).
And few people retain knowledge that they don't use with some regularity. I used to be able to point to Trumbull's painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and name each of the signers and a short bio piece on each. I certainly can't do it today for more than a handful of them.

(70 posts)Of course it was when Nixon effectively ended LBJ's peace negotiations with Vietnam by promising the South a better deal after he "won" the election. This is the most disgraceful smoking gun in American history, yet nobody wants to talk about it nor talk about how this is the root of the Watergate break in in the first place.

Didn't hear about this?
It's not surprising, just remember it when some T-bagger declares no one died from Watergate.
