Double homicide in my neighborhood this morning

I didn't hear the gunshots but apparently there was a barricade situation a couple blocks away and the man shot and killed his wife and stepdaughter in the house before he surrendered to police.

I imagine this happens everyday in neighborhoods across the country. People loose it and shoot family members.

No one is really saying much on our neighborhood Yahoo Group because information is still coming in. It's a moderated forum so I'm curious to know how much opinion will be allowed about guns on the subject. Probably not much if any.

So I'll spout off here instead. I guess because we have 2nd Amendment Rights I should just be a good citizen, not say anything and accept that people will be killed. But I will say that having a gun in the home during a domestic dispute can cause some problems. It's a quick solution. It's not like a knife or a hammer where you are very close to the victim. A gun affords some distance. There's another word I'm thinking of when people do something out of haste with not thinking about the repurcusions (sp?). I can't think of it but guns provide that advantage.

Anyway, I guess I'll hear more. Hopefully, it's nobody I know. The bodies are still in the home. Kind of freaky thinking about that. Arghhh.

But life goes on. The object of being an American is to get through life without being shot at.

This is the price of our Freedom to protect yourself from theoretical home invasions and property theft.

In reality, the probable invader is already living in your home and owns the gun.
