I am in Washington state. One commercial keeps telling me I am going to live a lot longer and need to keep working as lon g as possible bnecause my retirement benefits will run out if I don't. Obviously meant to make me feel the cold reality of catfood and newspaper lining my shoes in my old age.
The other commercial is even sicker. It gives me a whole other feeling, rather Orwellian:
They have a black woman with a broken arm bragging that her employer (who is standing behind her patting her on the back) was able to let her keep working in spite of her injury. No need to pay out benefits, she already benefits by coming to work with her arm in a sling. What the hell? I see that commercial and my mouth drops open.
They have taken this shell game to the public everywhere, I guess. Trying to convince us that benefits don't help people. That needy means greedy.
Other states getting rid of unemployment compensation altogether!
That there is even anything under any of the shells. Sleight of hand! Poof. All we work for is gone.

(60,010 posts)Maher had the President of the Council on Foreign Relations on, who was emphasizing the need " to focus on" the country's "entitlements-Medicre and Soc. Sec" which he promised were going to "blow up in our faces in a few years".
Somebody is making sure that Soc. Sec. is being kept in the public eye.
Also, note that The Council on Foreign Relations, along with the Bilderberg Group, are now very public.
15 years ago they were considered the stuff of conspriacy talk.

(28,979 posts)We knew the corporate state was building up for war against Iraq way before we finally invaded. They have tried to drum up the same enthusiasm for a war against Iran for some time with less success.
They have become way more obvious. They want more money. And we are way more broke.
So now they are waging war against the worker. Class warfare. To make up the difference. They are trying once again to win hearts and minds with propaganda -- this time to bilk their own citizens.
It's maddening to see my own tax dollar be used against me.

Me? I'm trying to survive until my SS kicks in, assuming they don't repeal it before then.
