Now, MSNBC reports, after a heavily protested meeting where multiple people had to be thrown out, the Chicago Board Of Education voted 4-2 to close 49 schools and one high school program in the largest round of school closures that a single American city has ever attempted.

Indeed, they may build an extension.

(58,162 posts)it`s going to be a big problem when these schools close and the children are placed at other schools. they tried this a few years ago and a death of a student made national news. the statistics of violence these children face during the school years is dreadful. now the city is pledging police and firemen to protect the students who have to cross gang turf. i doubt that will do much good because the violence within the school building is another problem that will be made worse.
the concept of neighborhood schools is a thing of the past for the parents and the children.
