.... But those OIL Company's in the area got billions in corporate welfare, while making obscene profits and paying effective tax rates off zero% percent or less.

(26,117 posts)It took at least a couple years to raise funds for the part not covered by the FEMA grant, but we finally got it. Lots of businesses and individuals contributed, as well. I'm even more glad now, after the Moore tragedy.

(1,879 posts)For several years. Attended Plaza Towers Elementary School when it was brand new, the first year it opened I was in fourth grade. All told, lived in OK for ten years. NEVER saw anything like this. Maybe that is part of it. I would thing that after the last three tornados the school district might think it was time to pony up and build the shelter. I can tell you we had storm cellars in other houses we lived in but not the one in Plaza Towers. I can also tell you that house is totally gone after this last tornado.
I think these weather extremes are getting worse and will continue to get worse, so we need to protect ourselves. There is no other choice unless we want to keep enduring these tragedies.

(1,879 posts)Living in OK that long ago and seeing nothing like this, it is so hard. I see vaguely familiar places totally destroyed and I wonder about all the dreams I have had about this level of destruction.
