Althoff High School (Belleville, IL) athletes accused of making secret videos of female students

BELLEVILLE, IL • Boys on a sports team at Althoff Catholic High School have been accused of making “unauthorized video recordings” of female students at the school.

Althoff staff notified Belleville police on May 3 about the allegations, according to a police statement.

Police said school officials learned of the alleged recordings on May 1.

Police are working with the St. Clair County state's attorney's office to obtain cellphones or other devices that may have been used in the recordings.

Calhoun's assertions about overpopulation seem relevant here...

(I've learned not to mention the relevance of rape culture, misogyny or patriarchy, to avoid being labeled a pearl-clutching "Sister of Blessed Outrage.&quot

Boys have always tried to find ways to peep in the girls' shower and locker rooms.

Looks like these boys got caught.

"boys will be boys."

In high school we can't expect them to behave with respect toward girls and women.

And girls will need to handle being "targeted" because that is what boys do.

I'm just saying it happens.

It became a joke in the "Smallville" TV series, when the teenage "Superman" found out he had x-ray vision and could peep into the girls' locker room, just a couple years ago.

And who can forget "Porky's."

It's considered harmless fun in pictures like "Porky's" and "Revenge of the Nerds". Being as I don't watch too many films aimed at teenagers, it wouldn't surprise me that the attitudes towards being a Peeping Tom in those movies are still being portrayed in recent movies.

We don't change the culture until we change (preferrably by market forces) the content of our entertainment.

Uncriticized by some and certainly not by those whose sexism is a psychosocial blemish they'd rather ignore or deny.

But as long as there are teenage boys, there will be peepers.

(Although a couple years ago I read of some teenage girls who were peeping on the boys!)

Grown men engage in this behavior:

We have no chance at all of stopping or even limiting this sort of sexism until we stop treating it as some kind of joke.
