A Right-Wing Mole at ABC News

Conservatives don’t just complain loudly, endlessly and inaccurately about liberal media bias. They also train right-leaning journalists to make their way into the supposedly hostile terrain of Beltway media. And one of the most famous alums of a conservative media training program is now a major star at a network news outlet: ABC’s senior political correspondent Jonathan Karl.

How many "Star" DUers currently have you on their ignore list?

I happened to be browsing through my various account settings and clicked My Profile, clicked the transparency tab, and then clicked the "Show me my Transparency page" link.

I was kind of amazed at the number of Star members who have me on full ignore. I realize that my manners on this board are generally lacking, so it makes sense that some people have decided to tune me out.

What's typical? How many do you have ignoring you?

Another question: can you tell when someone is ignoring you? Does the DU software give you any clues that you are about to respond to someone who will be incapable of seeing your response?

This was a funny thread with plenty of DUzy-worthy comments and pictures that I was much too lazy to pick out...

Ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica?

Where do they go? Wonder no more!!!

It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and in penguin language sing:

God killed 285 people with Sandy. But the storm in Oklahoma killed only 24 (or 91).

The tipping point between God's Wrath and God's Mercy is some number between those two values. Officials are still estimating a final fatality count of 91, but the number of officially confirmed deaths has been downgraded from 51 to 24. We can represent the scientific measurement of God's Wrath/Mercy with the mathematical formula:

285 > WG > MG > ~ X | {24 < killed innocent people < 91}

Where "WG" represents those killed because god was capricious in this holy wrath and "MG" designates those innocents killied inadvertantly by God's storms attacks while He was showing how proud of us he was.

Peggy Noonan jumps the shark

Peggy Noonan jumps the shark

by Hunter

It seems more and more people are noticing that Peggy Noonan is losing her mind. Or rather, that she's making it a bit too obvious to shrug off anymore. The whole purpose of the Sunday shows, after all, is to showcase Important People who have lost their minds, an endless spring break of the soul in which a few dozen highly paid alcohol abusers all tell us to hold their gin and tonics and to watch this, America—then they do a nice swan dive from a third floor balcony into the shallowest end of the idea pool. Thwap.

The dog whistle quote came via NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday from Peggy Noonan, who can no longer be taken seriously as a writer or pundit. When host David Gregory pressed her on the lack of evidence for her claims that the IRS scandal was worse than Watergate, Noonan insisted that the president “was giving a dog whistle to people who could launch this thing.” The former Reagan-Bush speechwriter vividly summed up, in her thousand points of crazy style, where the IRS “scandal” went over the last few days: Obama didn’t need to order the tax agency to harass Tea Party groups (and his critics don’t need proof that he did so): his criticizing the group during the 2012 campaign, as well as blasting the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, represented an implicit order to do so.

Elephant stomps on a poacher who tried to shoot him

A few weeks ago, Noluck Tafuruka was arrested by police in Zimbabwe for possessing a rifle without a license. But he’s doing better than his partner, Solomon Manjoro. The two men allegedly snuck into Zimbabwe’s Charara National Park with the intention of bagging some valuable wild animals.

But one elephant that they tried to take down had had it up to here with poachers — and when you’re an elephant, “up to here” is pretty high. The elephant charged Manjoro and trampled him.

In recent years, poaching of elephants and rhinos in wildlife reserves in Africa has spiked dramatically, fueled largely by demand for their prized tusks and horns. Meanwhile, both conservationists and wildlife officers have struggled to protect these animals from hunters, a daunting task given the vast areas to be protected and the stealthiness of poachers who often enter the parks under cover of darkness.

Given the lack of human protection, the elephants are doing it for themselves.

Women Say God Told Them To Walk Down Road Naked

http://kplr11.com/2013/05/14/women-say-god-told-them-to-walk-down-road-naked/

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina —Drivers did double takes as a traffic jam began to form on Providence Road.

That’s because, in plain view, a family of four was strolling down the street —stark naked.

“Like freshly-born baby naked,” said Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Capt. Rod Farley, according to WCNC. “This was Adam and Eve stuff, not even a loincloth.”

Two women, described as being in their 20s and 40s, and two children, were eventually stopped by police.

They allegedly told officers, “the Lord told them to get naked and walk down the street.”

The Latest Inexplicable Meme? Cat Bearding!
The Internet has spoken once again -- and it wants more cats!

By Courtney Thompson - ivillage
May 23, 2013

Considering Grumpy Cat just became the president of the Internet (well, sort of), it's clear that the world's demand for online felines is insatiable. Fat cats, sleeping cats, business cats, cats playing the piano, cats playing cards -- they all go viral, reeling in hundreds of thousands of page views, and even more importantly, lots of "oh my gaaawd!" and "awwwww!" reactions. Oh, and lots and lots of sharing, too.

It's hard to keep up with all the kitty content being churned out daily, but the latest meme to surface, cat bearding, is pretty amazing. The concept is simple: Photograph someone holding up a cat over their mouth, so that the cats furry under-mouth and neck are covering the person's mouth and neck -- thus creating a cat beard!

Here are our five favorites out there (so far):

Shocked Beard

Disinterested Beard

Something is down on our front end. Can't reach it at all, not even with our maintenance system. John may have to drive up to the data center to fix. If so,...

'drive up to the data center" ? Jimrob is full of shit. I think he does this to bring in more donations.

This is cool. Astronaut Chris Hadfield does a cover of "Space Oddity" by David Bowie from the ISS

The colonel is back on Earth now, but he did this in the last days of his time aboard the International Space Station.

Take 5 minutes and enjoy. It's really rather good;

When people know that injecting humor might get them recognized, they lighten up just a bit. DU will be a more fun place to be thanks to the DUzies!

By the way, I am Ignored by 15...count them...15 members, while I'm only Ignoring 12. There are a few so dangerous, I keep them visible so's I can keep an eye on what they are up to....and I've served on jury duty 112 times as of right now.

My post was not posted on that thread. In fact in that thread, I questioned the ethics of posting as a DUzy a thread where all the people are making fun of an OP who has them on ignore. To me, that seems unfair. Just more of the same bullying tactics many of us have begun to take notice of.

Some of the non-mean-spirited posts were funny enough that I thought I'd add it in anyway. I didn't mean to implicate you directly in reporting that particular thread, was just giving blanket credit to everyone who used the word "DUzy" to encourage people to continue doing so, as that really helps in the search for funny material. I dislike pile-ons as well.

and some at DU really do feel justified in continuing to post snark in Nadin's threads when she has banned them for being so nasty to her in the past. They have made her experience on DU very negative if you ask me. And mine too. And for no good reason.

Sorry I snapped at you over it. It just gets old. Seems like people at DU could be more civil to one another.

I just have to remind myself that most people on DU support each other and seem like they are above that kind of behavior. They don't stalk and swarm for kicks.

and, thank you for taking the time to compile all this.

Only one comment - it might be good to refrain from posting obvious 'making fun of' posts like those from Sid Dithers.

Otherwise, excellent job!

On edit: I couldn't rec because of the mean-spirited posts I mentioned above.

I have, of course, noticed Sid's somewhat sour disposition and I don't like pile-ons either. I included that thread because there were some genuinely funny comments which were not directed at the OP (and though Sid's comment was directed at another poster, it seemed to be in fun). I gave Sid a DUzy because I think it's good to encourage humor that is NOT mean-spirited and I don't want to discriminate against any DU member when giving out DUzies - Principles before personalities, as the saying goes.
