There are a lot of Briefly Tempting Libertarian types around. Medea Benjamin is one of them.

Except we all know he will hop into bed with the Koch brothers if he helps the GOP win in 2016.

In my opinion, far too many of that ilk. The Island is very similar.

Most people have absolutely no clue how much help they get from others.

Along these lines, I had the very good fortune to be able to send my sons to an excellent secular private school, even though the public schools were also very good. The reasons I did so are personal and specific to my two sons. However, I was not very popular with many other parents because I constantly said that I should not be exempt from penny one of taxes just because my kids didn't go to the public schools. I understood how incredibly fortunate we were to have this choice.

And to natter on a bit more about schools: at any given time only a small percentage of any of us have kids in the schools. But we all benefit tremendously from having good public schools. Therefore, we should all be willing to pay what's needed to have good public schools.

Why do I feel I'm repeating myself?

My dad and one of my uncles both hate government and unions. They both work for the Postal Service. Government and the biggest union in the country, I think. I'm too tired to point this out. They'd be the first to complain if something that affects them is cut. I was in the car with my dad yesterday, he has a problem with the light-rail expansion to Clackamas County. He lives in Washington County and doesn't know what the fuck he's taking about. It was hard to hold my tongue, but he was doing me a big favor.
