UPDATE #1: Sorry, no update on amount raised yet; I'm sure AtomicKitten will let me know as soon as she logs onto the computer this morning. The first update is that the auction of the beautiful jewelry, to raise funds for Seven, is now ready! See below for more info.
UPDATE #2 (1:20 PM EST): $600 raised so far!!!
UPDATE #3 (5:40 PM EST): $668 raised so far!!!
UPDATE #4 (as of 10:30 PM PST): $1030 !!!!! (It's Thursday; no more donations since this last update to my knowledge)
I don't anticipate any more updates financially; I think the fundraiser topped out around $1078. Atomic Kitten is now shopping for better rates for the surgery and believes she may have found a clinic or two to work with at a reasonable rate ($1100). She will let us know after Seven has had surgery and will give us a progress report.

(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. Long-time DUer, AtomicKitten, needs help for her precious, Seven.
Please see this WISHLIST POST, which includes a link to a PayPal account being used to collect funds for an excisional biopsy. Please also feel free to contact her here at DU or Wishadoo with questions.
(Remember that you don't have to have a PayPal account to help; your debit or credit card will work just fine. Also, it seems PayPal works differently for every single account. If you have the option to select "Personal" and then "other," that should eliminate any fees.)
If there are other forums here at DU where this can be shared, would you please do so for me? Thanks.
Please Note: Two DUers have previously donated items to use in Wishadoo!'s Marketplace, but because there is so little activity there, I haven't posted anything as yet.
The auction offering the beautiful jewelry our own Le Taz Hot crafted is ready to be auctioned in the Wishadoo! Marketplace. The proceeds will help the fundraiser for Seven! It works like ebay, and I set it for a three-day auction. CLICK HERE to check it out! (You do have to be a member and logged in to Wishadoo to use this tool. If anyone has trouble with anything at the site, please let me know. But I'm going crazy today, more than usual, so please be patient with me. )
(Description: Red and lavender micro-macrame bracelet and earring set. (Faux) "Jeweled" diamond-shaped center beads with faux pearl accents and red seed beads. This set is one-of-a-kind and will never be duplicated.)
BE SURE TO K&R THIS POST SO YOU WILL SEE MY UPDATES, INCLUDING THE MARKETPLACE LISTING FOR THE ABOVE AUCTION ITEM!

(46,585 posts)I am looking at vets outside SF proper (Daly City, etc.) for a better price. I'm also making a lower offer for inclusive care hoping someone takes me up on it. I am hopeful Seven will be wearing the cone of shame in no time!
Thanks a million.

(22,920 posts)I've asked her to please keep me updated throughout the day, and I'll update the OP accordingly.
I don't know anything yet.
If the DUer has a PayPal account, they handle it; that's the preferred way to go. I've done it using my own account at times when they don't have a PayPal account, which is why I've been able to give updates more easily previously.
Just FYI.

(28,581 posts)I always say, DU is like family. We might yell and scream and call each other names sometimes, but when someone is in trouble, DU is always there to help.
Things like this show DU at it's very best.

(3,927 posts)We can't know what that lump is that's grown on Seven until it's biopsied. Just wanted to pass along that one of my dogs developed a look-alike lump that was a benign fatty deposit (though it still upset me even though I knew that). Hopefully Seven's is something similar! I'm keeping everything crossed.

(46,585 posts)I am overwhelmed by the generosity of DU. Sequestration has hit my unemployment checks by 17.86% or $79/week and I am floundering. I haven't been sleeping worrying about my girl, wondering how and when I could ever afford the care she needs so desperately now. This gift from the amazing people at DU is so humbly appreciated. I will never forget this kindness. Bless you all.

(12,504 posts)As I have done in the past, if you are comfortable PM'img me your street address, I could donate funds via a check. It won't be much, but it'll buy pain meds or whatever. happy to help. Let me know.

(6,794 posts)Seven is handsome and I bet he is smart. Best of luck on the surgery. I donated. I also just lost one of my Goldens to a rapidly growning, highly invasive variety of cancer -- hermangiosarcoma, a cancer of blood vessel cells. Goldens and German Shepards are most prone to it. My heart understands what Seven's owner is experiencing.
Polly Hennessey
(6,794 posts)Looks like Seven is a girl - I take back handsome and put in beautiful --- the smart still stands.

OneGrassRoot
(22,920 posts)I'm sorry you lost one of your Goldens recently. That is so very, very, very hard.
Polly Hennessey
(6,794 posts)It was harder than anyone can imagine. I guess because it was unexpected. The cancer had already traveled to his lungs. I had taken him in for a teeth cleaning the previous week and he seemed fine. After I brought him home, I started noticing changes in his behavior. Not eating, etc. I took him back to the vet and they did x-rays and discovered a mass on his spleen. The cancer he had is aggressive and fast. It might have been found if we had done x-rays earlier but who does full body x-rays for a teeth cleaning. I think I am still in shock. Last week I took my other Golden in for a teeth cleaning and this time I had a full body x-ray taken. She is fine. I am now so paranoid that whenever my dogs go to have their teeth cleaned I am going to have a full x-ray taken.
I can honestly say that Murphy and I did not have a chance in hell once the tumor(s) were discovered. I held him in his final moments --- looking him straight in the eyes. I was the last thing he ever saw and it was beyond painful for me.

(46,585 posts)I love the above quote. When our dear critters pass, it's like they take a piece of our heart along with them. When we walk them to the rainbow bridge, it is the most precious moment we have with them. It breaks our heart, but that love drives us to love another when we adopt again, keeping that fragile circle going.

(6,794 posts)Thank you for your kind words. I, too, love the quote and will use it. We have contacted the Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Nevada and may be adopting a seven year old Golden soon. His name is Bailey. They tell me he is a sweet guy, laid back, is OK with cats - he ignores them. Tomorrow is our interview. If we do adopt Bailey, I think I will rename him Finn. He is an English Cream color. He was kept in the backyard and has never known what it is like to go for a walk. Who would treat a beautiful creature such as a Golden (or any dog) like that? I am forever amazed by humans.
