Santorum would be the BIGGEST gift the Dems have ever had!!!

He is a nut. He will scare the crap out of independents. He will scare moderate republicans.

We need him to be the nominee!!

It will make the next 9 month much easier on all our nerves!

1. Ironically, right now he does better against Obama than the other two...

...mostly because he doesn't have as much baggage. Which is a bar so low you'd need an archaeological team to dig for it, but that's beside the point.

But Santorum is so patently insane, and unstable, that at any second he could explode at the mouth with something that would send non-partisan voters fleeing for the hills.

man-on-dog

rape is a gift from God

women in battle will distract men

And a thousand other frothy crazy things.

AND he is the frontrunner, polling ahead of Romney, Gingrich. Conservatives believe he is the chosen one. If his crazy shit could scare people off, they would have already been scared off by now.

Those are much lower grade than, say, Newt dumping his wife on her sickbed for the woman he was banging on the side, then doing it again; or Romney's rhetoric today compared to his tenure as governor of MA.

about '20% of Republicans are leaning towards Obama and Santorum had the worst stats there.

I would think Santorum would be a nightmare for the GOP. Does he have ANY economic or foreign policy cred? I thought he was pretty much a one issue guy...no sex for anybody.

2. Are you sure? He is scary

He has hardly spent any money; Romney and Gingrich have both blown tens of millions attacking each other; neither is a good "true conservative" candidate; Santorum is a PERFECT "true conservative" candidate. He was THE CHOSEN ONE by the massive committee of religious leaders a month or so ago.

He is crazy, but the religious right loves crazy, and the money right will tolerate crazy if they get to keep their tax cuts.

Doesn't see a future with Newt. I guess he's looking at Newt as a prospective husband.

Guess we'll know in a few days.

6. If he gets the nomination, I believe he will be the first certifiably batshit candidate
Sat Feb 11, 2012, 05:12 AM

to be nominated by either major party within living memory. I know that Goldwater was regarded as batshit when he ran in '64, but he would be considered a moderate by today's standards, and way too far left for today's Repubs. And I'm pretty sure that if he were around today that he would see Santorum as every bit as batshit as we do.

And if he's matching up well against Obama right now, I wouldn't worry about it. Up until now he's been pretty much a fringe candidate. Now that he's entered the top tier, he'll be he'll be getting scrutinized at a level that he has avoided up till now.

I have to say that this Republican primary is by far the most entertaining one in my lifetime.

8. There are a lot of people claiming to be progressives who don't like the health care mandate
Sat Feb 11, 2012, 06:02 AM

They would vote for Santorum in a NY minute because he has promised to do away with the mandate and many of them are just as bat shit crazy as he is.

I watched the lunatic Reagan get elected to two terms and it wasn't all Republicans voting for that asshole. Lot of progressives don't mind being useful idiots for the GOP if they are getting what they want. They figure fuck everyone else. I remember because I was around at the time.

I wouldn't start counting my chickens just yet.

But you have to admit, Santorum is full on batshit nuts and that is apparent to a lot more people than just us.

I don't remember Reagan giving me the full on heebie jeebies BEFORE he was elected. Santorum makes even my Rush-listening friend nervous.

And it turned out my suspicions were correct.

Hell, the piece of shit came out against against the passage of Medicare for crying out loud. That was enough for me right there. I am still kind of surprised that wasn't enough for people to see what was coming.

While I do admit Santorum is batshit nuts do you admit there are probably people who call themselves progressives today who may not care about that as long as he promises to address the single issue they are concerned with? Like say killing the mandate?

16. I estimate he would get an automatic 30-35% vote

just on the abortion issue alone. Add another 5 or 10% for abolishing the new health care law and he is in striking distance.

Way too many single issue voter for my comfort.

People were convinced he would lead us into full-scale nuclear war with the USSR. And people said that America would never vote for Bush Jr, he's so stooopid. So be careful what you wish for.

as would those with Paul.

Then again, the quality of the moderators is dubious. Those so far are just a running gag on incompetence and toadyism. Everything we've come to expect from the MSM in their race to the bottom.

15. And if he wins? What then?

I can remember when we as a nation wanted the best candidates from each party running. Now all we want is for our candidate to be the "lesser of two evils". You often get what you settle for. Why would you want a "nut" one step away from being our President? Myself, I would like a choice between two good candidates instead of between a "nut" and one who is a little bit better than a "nut".

We want the worst Republican candidate to run, the Republicans want the worst Democratic candidate to run. Lately I think we have both been getting our wishes.

The "my candidate can't lose against such a bad opponent" theory went out the window in 2000, please don't wish it on me again.

2000-2008 wasn't easier on my nerves, was it on yours?
