Tech workers: I am a mechanical engineer unable to find work in my field. You?

I'm looking to make a thread with variations of that statement just to see how many of us are here.

1. For Java in DFW and 5yrs there are a lot of request. H1s moved back during crash and it's

...harder to get them in now.

I pray Obama admin doesn't look towards the hype on the displacement issue from CEOs.

There's not a lot of input on this issue from the everyday US citizen tech worker throughout markets and that has been a frustration with the O admin

2. I know of some spots open for telecom/SIP/managed services

engineers in Dallas area...

6. Thank you , but I have found a job outside of my

field that suits me. It took several years of temp employment at various jobs to end up here, enough to suggest that any "shortage of engineers" is highly exaggerated!

4. Programmer who's now working tech support at an educational software company

and making a fraction of what I used to make at my old job (which, to be fair, I hated, but the pay was good).

5. Last week our son moved from Seattle to College Station Texas for a job

He's a crane operator (steel mill). He was seriously underemployed after his old company cut shifts from 3 8s to 1 8.

He was recruited, and packed up all his stuff and moved.

He'll be making a lot less than what he made before he was laid off, but there was no hope of being called back anytime soon so he took a leap of faith

7. Software Engineer / Programmer here

Been looking since mid-November. I wouldn't say I'm unable, but it is a very slow market for people with high levels of experience.

In my case I have 20+ years in hardware and software tech and current skills in Java (pretty much all flavors, SE, EE) and un*x.

It's slow here in the DC market, I can't imagine what it's like elsewhere.

Really, that's what some free traders say around here. Pity it's against the rules to mention names. They've been in hiding as of late.
