Summer solstice,
Return of the night.
Tomorrow the nights grow longer.
Tomorrow the heat grows stronger.
Tonight, the shortest night.

(40,416 posts)I drove to neighborhood market for home cooked hamburger and fries for take out this evening. I saw a porcupine, a large box turtle (sunning himself at the edge of the road), and two coyotes. It's a six mile drive each way through the national forest. The market is in the middle of nowhere and they have just about anything you need.
Finally getting to 80 degrees here in the woods of west rural Michigan. Still cool at night.

(15,682 posts)Damn. I always think it should fall directly in the middle of summer, not at the start. Kind of sad that it's the beginning of the end of summer.
Glass half empty attitude, I'll admit. But I love long summer days. Sigh.

(2,852 posts)And we may have rain Sunday, Likely Monday. That's unusual in this part of the world. I did finally get some pumpkins seedlings in the ground today. I have been eating yellow straight neck squash for a few weeks, as I got them in the ground over a month ago. Our first tomato is ripe too.
