" most GOP senators are too terrified of Trump to convict him"

No amount of testimony, admittedly, would change most Republican votes, because most GOP senators are too terrified of Trump to convict him.

Opinion: The Senate got smoking-gun evidence of Trump’s guilt. 43 Republicans didn’t care.

Ok, let’s get down to it: what are they afraid of Trump doing?

Siccing his attack dogs, I mean supporters, on them?

Ridiculing and insulting them on whatever media he has access to?

Revealing scandalous information about them?

Leaving a horse’s head in their bed?

Other?

While president, Trump influenced a number of primaries and elections. He certainly wasn't 100% effective, but enough to scare the bejeezus out of the ReThugs. Even though he no longer holds office, Trump still holds sway. It's unfortunate. I mean, the Republicans should vote their conscience even if they run the risk of losing their cushy jobs in Congress, but they're putting self-interest ahead of country. That's why they're the inferior party.

I would counter that those ReThugs have two viable options: the circus or selling snake oil.

this is just one more way the media, and this country, enables right wing fuck wittery.

There were three groups of republican senators who took that vote.

1) The ones who had some light in their souls and did the right thing.

2) The ones who have some light in their souls, but, yes, are so absent any moral fiber that they did not vote to convict because of political calculations. BUT, what needs to be said is that they are scared of the monster they created, through years, long before 45 came down the escalator, bullshiting their "base" into mush brained pods.

3) Those who have come to believe the bullshit they have spewed to their "base." The ones who are themselves pathologically deranged, hateful lunatics who want to remake America into a chrisofascist authoritarian state.

#3 is greater a number of times over than #1 and #2 combined.

Maybe 2 - 3% speak up but that's about it

What's the worst that happens?
Rich people get primaries and they're out of office?
They're already wealthy.
And 90% of them, in a day, could get a gig somewhere that pays 5x or more than a senate seat pays.
This is the epitome of cowardice.

those 43 Qpublican traitors did not do their duty to this nation, to this Democratic Republic.

These 43 Qpublican traitors, failed to act in accordance with their oath to the constitution.

These 43 Qpublican traitors, have emboldened the radicalized trump terrorists in this country and have given cover to the white supremacists within, to continue their assault on the majority. A majority that no longer looks like them?

These 43 Qpublican traitors, voted in favor of division over unity and confrontation over conversation.

These 43 Qpublican traitors, voted for themselves over country. They voted to protect their powerful positions in government where they want to rule, over protecting our country, a country where they are supposed to govern, not rule.

These 43 Qpublican traitors, voted for government by the mob. Those who use violence and force, have been emboldened to use violence and force in future elections, to keep these 43 traitors who support them, in power.

And which one of these 43 Qpublican traitors, would not be fine (wink wink) with a mob trying to overturn an election for them so they could stay in power?

How does anyone in government work with these 43 traitors going forward into the future?

How does anyone trust that they are negotiating in good faith about anything?

How do news organizations book them to ask their views on democratic processes and policy...or anything?

How does anyone come together and unify with these 43 trump traitors?

How does this democratic Republic endure with these people still in power?

They have shown us who they are, and who and what they stand for.

43 Qpublican traitors who relish intoxicating power, over democracy and its constitution.

I keep telling myself, that the Senate voted to convict trump and the 43 Qpublicans, voted for their future careers, not to convict so trumps people wouldn’t vote against them in their next campaigns in order to maintain their power.

They love power much more than they love democracy and if the only way for them to have power is authoritarian rule, then so be it for these 43 Qpublican traitors.

How do we move forward from this horrible moment?

On a happier note:
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!❤️
