You may be out-numbered, but at least you have a state party thats fighting. In Fla, we outnumber the GOP by about 800,000, but state party is a dysfunctional mess, and many of the few elected Dems are DLC lined up at the same corporate feed troughs as the republicans. There's Alan Grayson and a few other rays of hope, but otherwise disappointment.

from TN, which IMHO is the most beautiful State in the Union. We have everything here, from hillbillies and the mountains in East TN, through the Cumberland Plateau and the Highland Rim with some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the US, all the way down to the Mississippi and the Home of the Blues in Memphis. Not to mention the BBQ! And some of the NICEST people you ever want to meet

And then I go to TX, which is supposed to be a "sister" of TN. The whole attitude I get there is "if you ain't from Texas, you ain't shit".

Tomorrow I'm supposed to fly to San Antonio. At least there are some hills there - ugly brown hills with very little vegetation, but at least it's not flat.

And I'll appeal to their egos - again.

and then complained about the horrible attitude they got from folks, it's usually an attitude originating with the visitor. If you're rude to us, we're going to be rude in return, though we'll at least try to be restrained at first.

No, not everyone in Texas was brought up to be polite to all, but many of us were, and we'll be your best friends ever, if you at least attempt to be polite.

Really, in my experience, if you're rude to people anywhere in the world, they're going to be rude right back.

As for the terrain, I find deep beauty in the scrubby landscape of Central Texas, and even the scrub-brush of the coastal plains. I guess you just have to grow up with it to appreciate all forms of Terran beauty

Compare that to the way Texas liberals like me are regularly classified as Rick Perry wannabes, here at DU. Prime example: there you are, dismissing the entirety of Texas as a "cesspool of a state," due to some unfortunate encounters you had there. Slam my state all you want, just be aware that it doesn't make you look too good.

I haven't been everywhere, but at least I know how to ignore rude people and appreciate any region for other reasons, such as geographical beauty. I see utterly no reason at all to hate any state of the union, no matter how the locals vote.

I will admit that I don't have the capacity in me to understand just how people can hate entire regions based solely on one or two bad experiences in a tiny fraction of the same region...

Not to mention I need to know what your attitude was like at the same time. We've seen all too often around here people talk about how much they hated being in Texas only to find out that they took an antagonistic attitude with everyone (just as they often do around here.) Well, if you're rude to people, don't get upset when they're rude right back.

Now, I don't know if you were rude, but I need to know all of those pertinent details before I can become "enlightened." Your post tells me nothing other than "It was horrible, I tell ya!"

So, tell me!

Texas will keep getting slammed while they keep electing fools like Joe (apology to BP) Barton and Louie (shoe size IQ) and Steve (mancrush on Ted Nugent) Stockman. While those loudmouthed right wing ignorami are representing the state outside the state, people will think the whole state is like that.

Texas gets a little more purple every year. In another couple of decades, another state will be the national laughing stock. Until then, Texas and Florida are it.
