No one knows yet. Not even Evo Morales, but he's willing to state it's about an attempt to murder him or tarnish his image.

Pretty over the top stuff when there's very little information about the source of the rumor or reason that this happened.

and said that Snowden was a spy he didn't particularly care to meet.

So it looked like Latin America was okay with the USA, even Maduro was reported to have second thoughts about any asylum offers.

But Europe was on our azz about the leaks and this and that. Now we see they are maybe a little too attentive of any US requests.

I'm starting to think this has been a game played by Putin to see how strong the alliances are, to have some fun.

Nailed It.

On Edit:
But you got to have some compassion.
They've been up night & day for over a week,
hovering over their keyboards,
frantically and desperately attacking any thread that could conceivably be seen as anti-government spying, or critical of the Obama Administration.
So lapses in judgement and thinking skills should be expected at this point.

I actually saw one reduced to "I know you are but what am I?" a few days ago.
Desperation sucks, especially when you got NOTHING left.
Sad really,
but it is like a Circus Freak Show.
I KNOW I shouldn't watch,
but I HAVE to see it.

I think what scares the pants off of them is that there's not only more, but worse, to come and it's going to keep coming regardless of what happens to Snowden, or even Greenwald.

"That capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn't matter. There would be no place to hide."

"I don't want to see this country ever go across the bridge. I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return."

Senator Frank Church on the NSA specifically

[center]

Asked what Edward Snowden should expect to happen to him, William Binney, answered, "first tortured, then maybe even rendered and tortured and then incarcerated and then tried and incarcerated or even executed." Interesting that this is what a whistleblower, former Senior level Director at NSA, thinks the U.S. government will do to a citizen.
