vaccinations are important.

Everyone, please check to see if you're up-to-date, and get your boosters if you need them.

that there is enough pertussis (whooping cough) in circulation that adults can inadvertently expose an infant. The booster you got as a kid wears off, and what you think of as a minor cough can be deadly for an infant.

My husband had a nasty cough that lasted months a few years back - we wondered at the time if it was whooping cough.

I was almost over it. Coughed for a solid three months. I had no idea I needed a booster as an adult but I got it as soon as I could.

It is easily treated in adults with the right antibiotics, but can be deadly to infants and small children.

The old vaccinations wear off into adulthood. And pertussis is an illness nobody wants to get - it's basically a horrible 3-month cough, and people can break ribs, get terribly sleep deprived, etc.
