ETA: when I was on a jury, there was a guard outside the door at all times and when we went for meals a guard accompanied us everywhere even sitting at the table next to us. We went everywhere in a group. There was a separate bathroom right by the jury room for use of jurors only. Phones calls were all supervised. A juror who wanted to cheat would have had to try hard to do so. And why would these jurors attempt it? They have front row seats to the hottest show in the nation and who would want to risk losing their say on that jury?

especially in a murder case. They might have caught a bit of something by accident and then turned it off.

I've never been sequestered but when I was on a jury I didn't look for information on the accused nor did I discuss with anyone before we were allowed. It wasn't a high profile case. I took the instructions very seriously and I think most of the other jurors did too.

and the three weeks so far is not excessive as far as sequestered juries go, then that points in favor of a quick decision, no? If they really do want get out of there, then when a majority asserts itself, the minority goes along, unless they're determined to create a hung jury to avoid one result or the other.

If they are then court officials are keeping EVERYTHING away from them.

My wife at a local hotel when the city had a major case and the jurors where being sequestered.

First off they had a hotel floor to themselves. Police posted at fire escapes AND elevator doors for that floor. All TVs taken out of the rooms. Anything watched by the group (and it was usually a movie) police where present. IF dinner was ordered in for them Hotel staff had to take it up to the floor and was immediately taken by the cops.

But I think they will acquit. The ME sunk the case. Game. Set. Match.

I can only hope this will inspire a review and change to the self-defense laws in Florida.

Very depressing. : (

Because he SHOULD go to jail for targeting, tracking, confronting and killing an unarmed teenager?

Because his word and the eyewitness accounts of a murky, rainy, night-time confrontation shouldn't be enough to let him go scott free?

I've served on several juries, and I've never gotten any indication that any juror has done anything like that. I'm sure it happens, but I think it's very rare. It's one of the reasons there are alternate jurors. If a juror starts talking about the case, others will rat them out and they'll get booted.

Just the coverage this has gotten before the trial and everyone I know has already had an opinion. I live in Seminole county and there's been a lot of talk about it. could be wrong. I know some jurors are from out of the area bit with a case like this a change of venue might have helped.
