(34,845 posts)I mean you can, obviously, but it's not much of a story. If Snowden provided evidence of his claims, this would be an entirely different set of circumstances.

(34,845 posts)Snowden claimed that armed with an email address, he could personally spy on anyone, including the President. Makes you wonder why he didn't snatch an email to prove it to us.
Snowden claimed the NSA had 'direct access' to the world's Internet providers. All the companies involved say that's bullshit.
Snowden claimed the NSA can watch our thoughts form as we type. Any evidence they are doing that? No.
Snowden claimed the NSA is downloading the Internet on a daily basis. Any evidence? No.
Snowden said he "saw things" but he has never said what that means.
He was not an Intelligence Analyst so he was never in a position to "see things" in the first place. If he somehow gained access through hook or crook, why didn't he get something to support his claims?
There is a reason China didn't want him and even the Wikileaks attorneys don't want him. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002310173

(5,764 posts)...once you get past the initial hysterical freakout the fact that a spy agency is spying in accordance with laws passed out in the open by Congress isn't actually news, while some criminal stealing classified documents and leaking them to international media outlets is?
Naaaaah... must be a conspiracy.

(772 posts)That makes you send money to it every year. They collect pages and pages of data about everything you own, how much you made, and everything!
And Obama expanded its powers with Obamacare... almost makes me want to hide under my bed at night... but we need to expose this for freedom!
Don't even get me started on the agency that hands out little cards with your name and a unique number. They're totally marking us like Hitler did with his IBM computers during the Holocaust.

Him...the more the government obsesses about it, the more it makes me wonder how far down the rabbit hole we are.

(32,139 posts)This is how sick and corrupted the system has become. They are in high defense mode now that these crimes have been revealed.

(34,845 posts)He didn't plan for his escape and he seems quite incapable of admitting that he might have been mistaken about some things, such as the 'direct access' claim.
He seems to have gone through this entire process from start to finish without much in the way of self-reflection.

(65,616 posts)Wait until reality finally comes knocking on his door in the form of years (perhaps decades) of some kind of detention/holding cell.
I bet he will start to self-reflect then.

(55,981 posts)government intelligence programs. It's something we should always be doing. Has nothing to do with Snowden. Booz-Allen seems to have a ton of personal data on every American. I dont know it's true but we should decide as an INTELLIGENT society to find out and decide if we like it.
There can only be a couple of reasons why some would want to concentrate on Snowden.
1. They simply cant deal with the idea that their government isnt being truthful to them and tucking them in at night.
2. They enjoy the comfort that a strong, tough, authoritarian state run by Herr Clapper unt Herr Mueller brings. Booz-Allen uber alles.
3. They are Conservatives.
The Oligarch Overlords are saying "hey look over there at Snowden" and the nitwits among us do as they are told.

(20,606 posts)Still waiting to see what crimes Snowden has exposed.
How much longer will I have to wait?

(55,981 posts)You dont want the truth so you use character assassination to deflect the conversation. Let's talk about what the NSA and Booz-Allen are actually doing. Are you interested? Booz-Allen may have a compilation of data on all Americans. Is Booz-Allen a loyal friend of the USofA or are they willing to sell the information to the highest bidder? Will Booz-Allen use the data to influence elections? Congressional votes?
Do you care? Or do you instead obsess with "Look at Snowden, Look at Snowden."
zappaman
(20,606 posts)I am simply asking what crimes has he exposed?
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)or whether you trust him or not, the discussion has been opened. There are lots of players now that recognize that we need further discussion and investigations. The obsession with Snowden is either a willful or hapless attempt at distraction.
The question is, do you think we need to look closer at what our intelligence agencies are doing? I do.
zappaman
(20,606 posts)Thought that for years.
But I keep hearing Snowden is a whistleblower who exposed US crimes.
So, my question remains....what crimes have been exposed?
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)I was wrong. If you "heard" that Snowden exposed US crimes, then ask the person that told you that. I dont care about Snowden other than I hope he isnt tortured or taken out with a drone hit.
I will fight this migration into tyranny. I only hope you will too.

(1,881 posts)Accolades. Not turning out so well, though. Greenwald has hit every station, bemoaning the distrust and skepticism, making it even more about the Dynamic Duo.
Why would anyone be surprised?

(65,616 posts)The 1% pay good money for a plutocracy! I don't see their millionaire news minions reporting on anything the PTB don't want in the news. People might be disturbed and that would hurt the bottom line.

(14,459 posts)They're trying to keep the focus off the NSA and Clapper, and trying to create a zone of doubt about the legality of things.

(75,480 posts)very little questioning the fascist, police state this country is becoming and which, no doubt, some of the information that Snowden has will expose.
