We at DU all get what Elizabeth Warren is talking about with the banks but most of the US seems disconnected. However because of her communication skills people are starting to listen. Warren is stunning good at making her case, no doubt about it. I think deep down most American's know she is right and they start to listen but they never quite get the full understanding of how important this is. Bringing back Glass Steagall and holding bankers responsible for these crashes is one of my top issues and I think while Warren is absolute amazing at arguing why Glass Steagall was effective perhaps she could have done better at explaining the stakes and induce some sober reality about what will happen again if nothing changes. Get them to stop looking at the poor to blame for all there problems and start looking at the bankers. They need to give real numbers as to how the 08 crash impacted their pocket book, especially if someone is unemployed. But also scare the crap out of them that this IS going to happen again. Because it's just a matter of time without reform. There is not enough fear and reality in the arguments from our side. We could learn a thing or two from how Republican's operate only in this instance people really do have something to fear. When we get another crash because of the banks which will happen again I guarantee it, it will be catastrophic! It will cost the average American tens of thousands if not over $100,000, it will put tens of millions out of work and our deficit will skyrocket again. But it's 100% avoidable with some simple reforms! This is such a huge issue and someone like Warren has the skills to get America behind her but I feel she needs to get real with them about how scary this is. I believe in Warren and think she is one of the few who could pull this off.
I hope this doesn't come across as criticism of Warren because I am her biggest fan, it was more an observation of how most American's still seem cut off from this even after her stunning performance the other night. But maybe she is just getting warmed up?

(2,424 posts)should be especially pissed about corporate welfare and bank welfare.
We have to keep it simple and relentlessly pound away.
Blaming our ills on folks buying a sack of groceries while the bank bail out doubles our deficit due to criminal activity and to top it off, not being properly investigated for the crime.
I say this often to those that complain about our "giveaway society". I begin by agreeing with them and then point out what the true "giveaway" is.

(28,965 posts)The bankers and Republican's just do a better job getting regular folks to focus on the poor. They have won the propaganda campaign hands down. Dems are back in the dust on this one.

But push comes to shove fixing the Citizens United decision and getting some sort of control over Corporate Lobbyists are my two prime objectives.
Nipping at the ankles of the 1% won't get the job done. We have to make it impossible for them to simply reach for their wallets to get what they want.
I really do appreciate Elizabeth Warren though.
