Santorum 37%
Romney 33%
Paul 15%
Gingrich 10%
Romney is closing fast. He has already cut 9% off of Santorum's lead based on the PPP poll done last week.
It should be noted however, that the PPP poll last week with the big spread was an outlier. The new PPP numbers released tonight are in line with other recent polls giving Santorum about 3-5 point lead in the state. The bad news is that the momentum and movement is with Romney not Santorum. Rick Santorum needs for this primary to begin now. I'm not sure he can hold out for another week.

(6,551 posts)It's best that Romney wins by a slight margin.
If he loses, who knows who might step in and run for the nomination.
I'd expect that the establishment would step in and run the most competitive person they can find - someone who's more difficult to defeat than Romney.

(645 posts)Until we see another poll with narrowing results, looks more to me that no one has momentum and the race is stable and will probably remain so until the debate on the 22nd which should move some numbers.

(2,384 posts)I wonder if Romney can close the deal. You have to think that last 4 precent will come harder then the pervious 11. Moreover, it appears both AZ and WI are moving the other direction.

(7,527 posts)He and Gingrich just can't seem to stop themselves from self destructing.

(645 posts)Seeing that his favorables are the same and his percentage has barely changed.
it's more that the last PPP sample was heavily leaning toward Evangelicals and had an abnormally high number of undecideds.

(22,308 posts)but with any luck the shock effect will wear off by the time the election is actually held. That or maybe the Rmoney voters will be as turned off to the process as the Santorum voters.
I'm still holding out hope for Frothy. I think we can get enough (D)s to cross over to have an impact.
