Just for this goat-fuck insanity alone, Arpaio ought to be run out on a rail. Rounding up a bunch of John Wayne wannabe pinheads with guns, deputizing them as a "posse" (a fucking posse, in 2013), and setting them loose in our goddamned public schools. I fucking hope no children or teachers get killed from this.
The sounds of gunshots and explosions shook the walls of Queen Creek High School on Saturday afternoon. The sounds were part of a simulated training exercise for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Posse.
As teachers and students get ready for a new school year, the sheriff's office is preparing to send members of the posse back to school as well. Just days before school starts, however, those training to be the ones protecting the schools have a lot of training they need to get done.
"Things are very fast, that's why you go through this training," Garrett Blackwell said.
Blackwell, a member of the sheriff's posse, was on the receiving end of a scenario gone wrong.
"I played the role as a teacher," Blackwell said.
Unfortunately for him, he also took a direct-shot in the chest by a simulated round of gunfire.

(11 posts)Arpaio claims that his effforts are designed to protect Arizona's borders from illegal Mexican immigrants. The funny things is, Maricopa county does not border Mexico - Cochise, Pima, and Yuma county are the ones that do. Therefore, it is not his job to "protect" the border since it is not within his jurisdiction.
Small wonder why even the Republican controlled courts have upheld the lower court rulings that determined he is engaging in profiling and that the $50 million taxpayers have to pay for his crimes have been sustained.
phantom power
(25,966 posts)I guess he sells his "cop-who-doesn't-play-by-the-rules" image effectively.

(11 posts)Perhaps because those who vote for him don't have to pay the $50 million awarded by the juries and confirmed by the courts. Interestingly, not even half of the lawsuits have been tried as yet. Ultimately, taxpayers will have to pay FAR more for his crimes and abuses of power.
I also find it interesting that right wing complain of government abuses by the IRS and NSA. But where are their complaints of government abuses by police and sheriffs???
