(1,485 posts)It's not like there is no way to have the audience act in a polite manner. It is a show, an event. Like asking them to sum themselves up in one word. That is just stupid and useless and has no place in the discussion of issues. This is truly a disgrace for the media.

(23,272 posts)I remember one epic convo in the lounge about table manners (as just one example), where I said I expected ANYONE sitting at my table to follow 4 rules: say please and thank you when asking for something, chew with their mouth closed, at least taste whatever's on the plate (unless it violated a religious or principled position like a vegan and meat), put their napkin on their lap.
Oh. My. Gawd. You'd think I was the manner's nazi. I don't discuss manners anymore with anyone on DU....

I had arguments and battles constantly with my grandmother because I refused to eat her lousy Southern cooking. Bitter boiled greens, no fresh vegetables, fatty meat, all kinds of yucky stuff. She just knew I was going to starve to death.
I did not. I am still here over fifty years later.
I was mentally scarred by it. I don't have a problem with food; they did.

(4,033 posts)debate audiences were quiet until the end. Perhaps in these days, there should be no people in the audience. It could be shown on a jumbotron outside the building the debate is being held.
