Why did the crowd boo last night when the GOP clowns were asked about contraception?

Doesn't that seem like a question you wouldn't want to know exactly where your candidates stood on such an issue?

Anyone else find that real odd?

What surprised me was that the booing started before
the question was finished. I would have thought there
would have been a hush over the crowd in anticipation
of the candidates' answers. There's no figuring them out.

Or booed the gay marine who asked a question of the delegates regarding DADT. They don't care what the politicians think because they're telling the politicians what they thing and expect the answer should be.

Remember these audiences are nasty pieces of work.

Somebody should draw a political cartoon of a raging teabagger, uber Christian (kind of like the KKK) looming over the Republican candidates wielding puppet strings and making the candidates dance and bob their heads.

It would be the perfect depiction of what's going on.

I found last night's audience, and their reactions, to be the oddest so far.

They were cheering and booing all over each other, all at the same time.

There didn't seem to be any rhyme, reason or rhythm.

So for the media to emphasize it is evidence to them of bias. They were booing the media. It's the same reason Newt used to get cheers for dissing the media.

Its a fake reality show. Newt attacks the media for daring to ask a question about a topic that the GOP has been getting pounded on for the last week.

The give away was when he started to scream about infanticide. It was obviously planned. None of them wanted to alientate women more than necessary, and so Newt does what he does best ... attack the evil Media.

Newt's problem is going to come when the rest of the country decides that bitching about media bias is about the same intellectually as claiming your Math teacher is biased against your opinion just because you believe that 2+2=5.

How DARE they so overtly support the other side.

On edit, if the 4th Estate wants to have ANY credibility for the next few decades (and NOT have themselves be considered "infotainment&quot , this is EXACTLY the kind of argument they will have to start making in their own defense whenever some idiot decides that knowledge-based facts are somehow less relevant than "truth"-based OPINION.

and knew that Santorum, Gingrich, or Romney's opinions on government and contraception would LOSE votes in the general election. After all, to the republicans, it's more than getting their candidate as nominee; it's getting their candidate as nominee elected in the general election. One strategy to do that is to not capitalize on an issue like contraception that would cost votes from a swing demographic. This audience was telling John King "Don't go there".

Remember these audiences are on record for booing a soldier, cheering executions and applauding the death of an uninsured man. Maybe they believe that since we are electing some kind of religious leader, that such a question is offensive. After all, at least one of those candidates believe that birth control is a sin, even if it's between a married couple.

"One of the things that I will talk about that no president has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the sexual liberty idea and many in the Christian faith have said, you know contraception is OK. It's not OK because it's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be."

As surprising as that may sound, most Republicans don't give a damn about this. The candidates are just giving lip service to the religious folks.

I think the booing was a bit of a mixed response though. Some boos were because they didn't care about this and didn't think it was worthy of being discussed during a debate; very similar to their response when CNN opened a previous debate asking about Newt's ex-wife. However, some of the booing was that they didn't feel it should have been brought up because it would hurt the candidates in the general election.

If they actually thought for themselves rather than let others do their thinking for them they'd realize what a non issue this is. In any other country this issue would be on like page 17 after "are we eating too much garlic as a people"?

But that's what the right does - and does well - they thrive on fear and misinformation. And an informed populace is not what they want. That's why they elevated the worst leader in American history to god-like status - he knew how to keep a population misinformed, and that's why they keep getting reelected and allow their bullshit to run rampant.

I think they're upset because they thought they'd be able to pummel democrats with the "Obama/Dems hate religion" framing and instead the issue has blown up in their faces and turned on them by being all about contraception itself, revealing what utter Neanderthals they are (apologies to Neanderthals).

They know where their candidates stand. They just don't want anyone else to know, because most people support contraceptives. These whackos are booing because they don't like the negative attention it is bringing to their candidates. The more contraceptives are discussed, the more people are turned off by these clowns, and that's what upsets the audience.

they know it's a loser, but they also can't go "We don't want to overturn Griswold, we acknowledge that people have a right to use contraception" (in other words, they have a "license to do things in the sexual realm that make God mad" or whatever it was Sticky Ricky said) ... they can't do that because THE INSANE BELIEF that ONE OF THESE DAYS they'll be able to throw all the 'sluts' who use the pill in prison (while telling the rest to put an aspirin between their knees) has been the secret fantasy that has kept all these repressed fetus fetishists priapic for all these years, probably ever since 1974 when everyone else was getting laid and they were sitting at home with Pat Boone on the 8 track.

In case anyone doubts that this has been what it's been about from the get-go, remember that the HLA has been a central part of the GOP Plank for decades. Here's what the big 'pro life' orgs have to say on the HLA, contraception, etc:

http://www.all.org/article/index/id/MjM4NQ

Spin, Spin, Spin. However grudgingly they may acknowledge that "The American People are still apparently favorable to contraception" (cue the heavy siiiiigh ) it's pretty clear that the plan is to go after the bad pills once the abortion drs are out of the way:

It is true, of course, that the plague of abortion is attributable in large part to the mentality of unwanting babies that is characteristic of the contraceptive society that we have become.

It is clear that the intrauterine device and many birth control pills are abortifacients rather than contraceptives. The HLA would permit a state legislature to control such abortifacients...

Where a device or pill has no other use than to terminate life, the legislature, pursuant to the HLA, could prohibit its manufacture and sale.

(cough. handguns. cough.)

This is a matter of great importance, because the abortion of the near future is going to be by pill or other do-it-yourself means. If we concentrate only on surgical abortions at later stages of pregnancy, we risk sanctioning a wholesale slaughter of persons in the earliest stages of life. There is a tendency in some parts of the pro-life movement to seek a "quick fix" by conceding the legitimacy of early abortions. This would be a fatal mistake. The fact is that the lUD and most birth control pills do kill people. Their victims are very little people but it surely is within the power of any civilized society to do whatever can be done to prevent those killings.
