FOX's Lou Dobbs attacks 'Lorax' and 'Arrietty' as left-wing brainwashing

http://entertainment.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/23/10486174-foxs-lou-dobbs-attacks-lorax-and-arrietty-as-left-wing-brainwashing

Apparently, "The Secret World of Arrietty" and "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" represent liberal Hollywood’s attempt to indoctrinate children.

During his Tuesday night show, Dobbs dubbed Disney’s "Arrietty" and Universal’s "Lorax" “insidious nonsense from Hollywood,” then he announced: “Hollywood is once again trying to indoctrinate our children.”

"Arrietty," about four-inch people who “borrow” what they need from normal-sized humans, encourages class envy and redistribution of wealth, according to Dobbs, while "Lorax" is just another example of environmental radicalism.

Then he answers himself: “Occupy Wall Street forever trying to pit the makers against the takers and President Obama repeating that everyone should pay their fair share.”

"What we’re doing is creating occu-toddlers,” said Matt Patrick, who joked that the anti-consumerism, pro-environmental messages should be countered by moviegoers who purchase lots of popcorn and candy then leave the trash on theater floors.

If you're new to the maker movement, or otherwise haven't seen our wonderful Meet the Makers series of videos yet, it's a great way to get to know some of the people who truly inspire us, everyday enthusiasts who are modding vehicles, building rockets and robots, doing citizen science, crafting, hacking microcontrollers, whatever floats their boat. Boats!

His idea of purchasing snacks and leaving all the trash on the floor for others to clean up sounds more like a toddler than anything OWS has done.

Dr. Seuss and Mary Norton wrote The Lorax and The Borrowers (which Arrietty is based on). These stories came out of the minds of creative, imaginative authors. Hollywood chose to make the movies based on the books but the original ideas and concepts came a long time ago.
My 6 and 7 year olds love Dr. Seuss and want to see the Lorax. The Secret World of Arrietty looks great too. They are personally more interested that Bridgit Mendler on the Disney Channel is doing the voice of the Arrietty then anything else.

It's not even as though either of these was new, except as regards the particular adaptation. 'Arrietty' is based on Mary Norton's 'The Borrowers' , an English children's classic published in 1952. 'The Lorax' was published in 1971. There have been TV/film adaptations of both books since the 1970s.

In any case, since when has encouraging children to share been seen as political propaganda? It is ordinary moral and social training, common to most eras and cultures.

'the anti-consumerism, pro-environmental messages should be countered by moviegoers who purchase lots of popcorn and candy then leave the trash on theater floors.'

Sounds like Patrick is still stuck at the toddler stage of social attitudes!

Based on my avatar, you can tell where I stand on this matter, but when Seuss was accused of being a communist he published under the pen name "Lesieg" (Geisel spelled backwards).

And then there was Orwell who predicted the Republican party's ultimate achievement.

On Edit: Miyazaki makes movies for the sake of the movie, not for political objectives.

The fact that Hollywood made a movie out of it is neither here nor there. That is what Hollywood does, makes movies out of books. But if Dobbs wants to take on Dr. Seuss, good luck with that.
