Glenn Greenwald Offered Brazilian Protection From U.S.

Glenn Greenwald offered Brazilian protection from U.S.

Greenwald tells Salon he intends to visit the U.S. soon -- but says the risk of prosecution against him is real

BY BRIAN BEUTLER

A Brazilian official has taken the unusual step of publicly announcing that the Brazilian government will offer Guardian writer Glenn Greenwald protection from the U.S. government after determining he risks facing legal action if he returns to the U.S.

To receive protection from Brazil, Greenwald would have to officially request it. But though he takes the risk of prosecution seriously, Greenwald tells me he has no intention of taking the Brazilian government up on the offer — and that he plans to return to the U.S. sooner than later, come what may.

“I haven’t requested any protection from the Brazilian government or any other government because, rather obviously, I’ve committed no crime — unless investigative journalism is now a felony in the U.S.,” Greenwald said via email. “But the fact that Brazilian authorities believe there is a real possibility that the U.S. would unjustly prosecute journalists for the ‘crime’ of reporting what the U.S. government is doing is a powerful indictment of the U.S.’s current image in the world — just as was the requirement that the U.S. promise it will not torture or kill Snowden if he’s returned. It’s an equally potent reflection of the massive gap in opinion between the U.S. Government and the rest of the world when it comes to how the NSA disclosures, my reporting, and Snowden are perceived.”

Greenwald — who once wrote for Salon — has published several articles based on classified surveillance documents he received from National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. Prominent elected officials in the United States have accused Greenwald of being complicit in the crimes they accuse Snowden of committing, which feeds suspicions, both domestically and abroad, that Greenwald might face legal action if he returns to the U.S. That’s part of the reason why Greenwald himself — a former appellate lawyer — isn’t shrugging off the possibility.

And Greenwald never took an oath to follow orders but still he is taking a huge chance. More is at risk than just his own person.

2. The oath is to protect America from both foreign and domestic enemies that would infringe our rights

I would say that those men who have taken this oath have a DUTY to report wrongdoings, such as Bradley Manning did, no matter whose feathers end up getting ruffled.

What greenwsld did was no crime. If he was charged with anything then it shows this administration is completely out of control and needs to be reigned in! I can think of a lot better things they should focus on that are REAL crimes.

He took no loyalty oath.

You would do well to ask who the foreign and domestic enemies are. They may not be who you think they are.

10. What I said, and meant was that "whistle-blowing" is the duty of anyone who took the oath

No matter who they are blowing the whistle on. This is what happens when a nation is in it's death throes. CENSORSHIP AND CONTROL(SPYING).
At this point America is declining and will continue to, no matter how our economic health is presented to us. This is why preventing whistle blowing is tantamount to the government(democrat or republican).
We have a failing educational system, a few generations that completely lack the ability to think critically or for themselves.
We have a health care system, with or without the affordable care act, that puts profit over people.
Our prison system is designed to profit off of poor people, people who would otherwise provide little to no profit for corporations/banks.
Just about everything we CAN buy breaks in two years or less.
Taxes are high, which in itself isn't bad. The fact that we receive very little for the taxes we pay is absolutely terrible.
There are going to be war crime reparation payments in our very near future most likely surpassing what the Germans were required to pay out.
Our military tech is decades old. China's tech on the other hand is brand spanking new. They surpass us in virtually every area. Russia isn't close behind China(you will NEVER hear this from the MSM).
Most of the world's population despises us, our direct neighbors despise us.
Our roads are crumbling.
Whole cities are in decay.
Our food is toxic and our soil is deplete of nutrients.
Our children are addicted to tech that does little to expand their minds.
Social skills are in a state of decline.
Most people are overworked and underpaid.
I could go on and on and on. WE ARE THIRD WORLD!
And it isn't going to get better until things get much much much MUCH worse because................................................
The News says things are getting better and we will all be OK.

There used to be a lot of movies based on the idea of the thin blue line, the line between and honest police officer and a corrupt one. I don't know whether there still are those kinds of movies because I'm not prone to watch them nowadays.

But the same is true of any organization. There are people who take the ethics of their job very seriously, and in contrast, those who are just working to look good paycheck to paycheck.

I know this to be true in the fields in which I have worked. There are sleazy types and conscientious types. Finally, the success of the company depends on getting the conscientious types into the right places, into management where conscience and honesty are what you fall back on in the crises.

Glenn Greenwald Justifies Snowden’s Fear He Will Be Killed: U.S. ‘Targeted’ Americans In The Past
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023035095

Greenwald hasn't been charged with anything but he's worried about being prosecuted?

Is there something Greenwald knows that no one else does? Seems a litte strawmanish delusional when no charges have been filed.

But it's not about Greenwald!!!!
