The NBC News revolt against an upcoming miniseries about Hillary Clinton continued on Thursday, with Andrea Mitchell calling it a "really bad idea."
NBC's entertainment division is making the miniseries, much to the chagrin of both RNC chair Reince Priebus--who has promised to ban NBC News from hosting any upcoming Republican debates if the series gets made--and NBC journalists, who worry that people will think they had some hand in the film. Foremost among these was Chuck Todd, who called the program a "total nightmare" for NBC News on Thursday.
On her MSNBC show, Mitchell joined in. Speaking to contributor and former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, she said Priebus was "understandably miffed" about the miniseries, as well as a CNN documentary also in the works. Gibbs called the shows a "bad idea."
"A lot of news people would say, including NBC News people, including Chuck Todd and all the rest of us, a really bad idea given the timing," Mitchell responded. Gibbs said the films would definitely be "unsettling and uncomfortable" to some.

(6,457 posts)Lots of cheering, very little about the reason he went down. Clips of his speeches, clips of the Inaugurations more cheering. If you didn't know the true story you would come away from this film feeling he wasn't really that involved in Watergate. It was the people around him.

(31,706 posts)This is yet another PR stunt by Rheinhold to intimidate the corporate media...also known as "gaminig the refs". He's tryint to deflect attention away from the civil war going on within his inept and corrupt party...

(9,385 posts)She is already a national public figure on a par with a former President like Nixon. Show me any potential candidates who can say the same. Besides, she hasn't announced and there's no guarantee that she will even run in 2016, so that's irrelevant.

(31,706 posts)...Mrs. Clinton's had a fascinating life that is very worthy of a bio-pic. If there wasn't such popular appeal, Rheinhold wouldn't be so anxious about bullying NBC around. I can see him getting in a lather for an announced bio-pic on Elizabeth Warren.
Again...I see this as a distraction...to get the tongues on hate radio wagging about how evil Hillary is and how "liberal" the corporate media is. Anything but the implosion of their party thanks to the teabaggers driving the party off the political abyss...
Cheers...

(9,385 posts)Everything isn't about elections. There is such a thing as history. Hillary already belongs in history at that level, Jeb Bush does not.
I'll answer your question anyway though. As the maxim goes, the antidote to bad speech is more speech. I personally wouldn't care what specials are run on whoever, and I doubt that Jeb Bush would be very riveting to watch, so I don't think that would have much audience appeal anyway. I'm also not a Hillary fan. I just think the crabbing about this is absurd.

(10,479 posts)are utter idiots. I do not know if Mitchell and Chuck the Toad have seen it but they have really outed themselves on air. The Republican party could not have asked for anything more than those two relaying their message.

(23,664 posts)I haven't followed this story so I'm asking this.
Are they worried about giving the appearance of favoring a Hillary candidacy by running a miniseries about her?
Because she could just as well be depicted very unfavorably, indirectly, by her association with all the Clinton scandals, real and fake, of the 1990's.
And the last thing that Bill Clinton wants is for the public to be reminded of troopergate, travelgate, paulajonesgate, whitewatergate, vincefostergate, and especially monicalewinskygate. I think he's sort of enjoyed the ass kissing he's been getting from the liberal media over the last few years. They've been holding him up as some sort of paragon in order to discredit Obama but if Hillary runs, all bets are off, all the old dirt will be dug up.
And maybe it wouldn't be so bad to watch him squirm a little bit. He's been so busy trying to be a republican he's sort of forgotten how those people treated him when he was in office.

(22,000 posts)If the conservative 1% want to have a snitfit about the other side doing a mini-series, then maybe NBC Entertainment should tell the news division to fire Mrs. Goldspin.

(16,993 posts)It made the war in Iraq seem reasonable. It was misrepresented in advertising, which made it sound like a documentary of the facts, when it was really nothing but propaganda. I remember calling my local ABC station about it, and haven't watched that station since.
Mrs. Alan Greenspan, who sat there on the air and discussed things her husband was involved in with no disclosure that she was actually MARRIED to the guy and slept with him every night...and Chuck Todd, what a piece of crap--always has been, always will be.

(7,759 posts)FOX "news." FOX entertainment can put out all the nasty stuff they want to about the Obamas and Clintons but NBC Eisntertainment can't do any of this unless it's guaranteed to be negative against the Obamas and Clintons? FOX already has Hannity and O'REilly entertainment pretending to be news programs.
