23. I didn't know this about Garth for a long while,

and it was someone here who pointed it out to me, and I'm still grateful that they did.

There IS a strain of Conservatism in America that is a more Classical, less Corporatized kind, (it's about the maintenance of what has been found by hard trial and error to WORK for the American People), and it IS possible, i think, for a Liberal to go down into "The South", and really and truly kick ass down there.

But it will take the kind of balls that I also think most of our elected Democrats lack. Greyson could do it, WARREN could probably do it, Howard Dean..someone not afraid to go stand on the destroyed mountain-tops of Appalachia, and say "Yeah, This is America, and we don't have to tolerate this from the Coal Co. Owners that have been fucking you over for a hundred years."

The proof I have is that these people know full well that FDR is the reason a lot of that region has electricity, and I get a lot of people come through the hotel that I work at--even the most self-professed Conservative of the bunch swears by the Tennessee Valley Authority, knows damn well it's why power in the region is as inexpensive as it is, and doesn't want it privatized for all the oil in Texas.

Our job as Liberals isn't to sell them on the statement "Government isn't worthless." It's to PROVE that statement beyond a shadow of a doubt, in a manner that reflects real, tangible, POSITIVE change in their lives.

But all in all, I bet it is better to have a dad who makes $400,000 a year (plus a future book deal and speaker's fees) than it is to have a dad who makes $30,000 a year (like I do) or who has lost his job.

How many countries have they visited? How many times have they been to Hawaii? I have never been to Hawaii and I doubt if I ever will. I have never even seen the Pacific Ocean, much less flown across it.

Whatever hassles they have inside their bubble, I don't think they constitute a really severe hardship or deprivation. At least there seem to be many benefits involved too.

What's that saying? "There are two kinds of politicians: those who want to do something and those who want to be somebody."

W was definitely the latter. I think Obama is the former even though I disagree with many of his methods. I hate that he gives in to the R's so much, and I think he is thoroughly misguided about the drone program and the NSA spying program. But I do believe his heart is in the right place, and that he believes he is doing these things for the good of the people of this country.

W just wanted to be famous and powerful. Oh, and W had a Congress that would do his bidding--even the Democrats. His Congress would even do stupid shit like Medicare part D, call it a wonderful thing for the people, and then give W credit for it. Obama has a Congress (at least half of one) that hates him, and will do anything to piss him off and to thwart his efforts. That's gotta hurt when you are truly trying to help people.

He could have fought for a good thing - and lost.

I would respect that. Say he fought for the eliminating 80% of the Bush tax cuts.

Instead, he fought for bad things - and says he 'won'. Instead of fighting for the elimination of 80% of the Bush tax cuts, Obama's starting point was only - eliminating 22% of the Bush tax cuts. A very bad starting point. But suddenly that bad compromise became - the LEFT position and NOBODY was advocating that 80% of them go away - except for perhaps me and the CTJ off in the wilderness chopping down trees where nobody could hear them fall.

So now 85% of the Bush tax cuts are PERMANENT. A horrible policy which will, like the original Bush tax cuts, do tremendous damage to our country. Yet Obama hails it as a victory - a partial victory.

I spent 8 or 9 years calling Bush a lying piece of excrement for the LIES he told about the Bush tax cuts. Am I supposed to look the other way, or think it is no big deal when Obama tells the same lies about ATRA (the bill that made most of the Bush tax cuts permanent)?

To me, those lies of Obama turn him into the same lying piece of excrement that Bush looked like.

Either that, or I am supposed to be a) too stupid to see through the lies or b) say "it is okay for Democrats to lie about tax policies that benefit the rich."

I do not see how it is possible for me to a) clearly see the bad policies and b) clearly see the lies told about the bad policies and still believe that Obama is a decent guy trying to help the working class.

The frustrating part is that there seem to be so few people who can also see through the bullsh*t.

But Garth Brooks is rich and happy. I wonder how much he will get over the next decade thanks to ATRA. I bet it is more than the salary I will make for working - and that's just his tax cuts.

When I lived in Tulsa, he chose us to do his first (and so far only) website, which is now inactive while he makes plans for the future. He's very hands-on when it comes to his image and career - when we were in meetings spitballing ideas for his website he would reply back with, "Garth wouldn't do that," or, "That's something Garth would like," which could sound weird or even conceited to talk about yourself in the third person, but it was just his short version of referring to his public persona. One time he dropped by the office because he was in the neighborhood (had Trisha with him) and took us out for lunch at Hideaway Pizza just to show his appreciation for our work.

The other nice thing about working with him is that I pretty much knew nothing about his music (still don't really) so it pissed off all my Garth-loving friends and relatives that I got to hang out with him (My Christmas card one year was me standing between Garth and Trisha in front of a private jet that he had us come out to Nashville on so we could hold meetings with his merchandiser and a clearing house). I wrote something like, "Merry Xmas... I still don't know what this guy sings."

I've always kind of wondered. I like the old Tom T. Hall song 'I like beer'. I always figured if you write a song (or sing one) that a large number of people will automatically like - it'd be like finding money in the street.

Toby Keith annoys the shit out of me, but I've often wondered if he doesn't behave that way publicly because he knows that there's a demographic that will always like him.

Indeed an balanced individual.. For some reason, from my perspective from the outside of the US, it looks like many of americans got a personal breakdown after 9/11, and have never really managed to get your feet on the ground again - and to be more balanced in your approach to things that is difficult to grasp..

Specially the conservative part if your country, looked like they got a personal, nervous breakdown - so horrible that no one can understand what happened with them.. And the election of a BLACK man to the presidency really got them out in numbers - to more and more madness and unwillingness to work with the administration to at least repair some of the horrible damage been made to the US..

From my perspective I'm little unsure where US is to go now - it can get sane again - and get their feet on the ground collective speaking - or it can just erode time and time again - to something nasty - like a civil war will start all over again... It is enough extremists in the US, to at least make it possible for something very bad to happened in the counry.....


I hope for the best for USA, but I am also afraid it will go worse, before the tide is turning - I believed it was bad when GWB was in office - (and it was) but it look like the extremist fringe really have continued to do damage to US, even after the election of President Obama (they can not stand the man) And I am afraid the fringe will continue to do damage to the US, as long as they can possible do it...

Then, it is good to have some balanced people out there, who is sane - and who is not afraid of stating his facts - and stand by it.. I guess he have earned enough money from his time in the music industry - so he can leave if he is not welcome as country artist anymore... Even if I do believe the world will loose a great artist if he does...
But then again Willie Nelson is still going strong - and have always been some of a rebel when it comes to the US foreign affairs I guess... So I guess it is place for some like Brooks in the country music industry after all..
