Supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi have damaged ancient Egyptian statues in the Upper Egyptian city of Al-Minya. They have also looted more than 1,000 treasured historical artefacts.
Looters almost wiped out the Malawi National Museum: out of 1,089 artefacts that it housed, 1,040 are reportedly missing, Ahram Online reported.
An internal investigation by an archaeology committee revealed that statues too heavy to carry were deliberately damaged, Ahmad Sharaf, head of the museums department at the Ministry of State of Antiquities (MSA) said.

(37,364 posts)and equally naive to think that other peoples will make the same choices that we would using the parameters of elections. Nothing in the world is purely black and white and for every "good guy" you can find a "bad guy." Lots of shades of gray are to be found. Whether we support anything at all is irrelevant where the peoples of the Middle East are concerned. Only they can chart the course for their nations. The choice for us now is either to let them do it on their terms or insert ourselves where we are neither wanted or can be effective.
