And if not, I hope they got that guy's name and description and the restaurant refuses to serve him in the future.

when you stiff a hard worker on a tip they're likely to remember and have their ways of payback.

This guy should be exposed to the world, this is outrageous. He signed on the check - get a real job - and then gives a dollar tip, wow, this dude makes Gordon Gekko look nice.

He'll regret it... Or maybe he won't know to regret it. I'm not bragging, but I always tip well - not because I'm a big shot, but because I'm afraid that I'll be remembered, and my future orders will have loogies or worse in them.

he should be given 1% of the service generally provided. "Sir - you need to go to the cashier, as if you were eating carry out to place your order.... Sir your meal is ready, it has been placed on the bar - you can go get it whenever you are ready for it (no reason not to still be pleasant)... Sir the fountain is to the left side of the room if you want more beverage that is where you can refill (okay even this advice has now passed the 1% of effort required).... Sir your 1% tip has been fulfilled - you have your appetizers but the rest of the meal requires you to provide your own service. Have a pleasant meal!

Obviously quite well off, he and his wife and kids had dinner. Lobster, expensive wine, fancy dessert. He lectured his family about everything during the meal, they spoke very little. As I presented the check he started in on another lecture about people who expect something extra for doing something they're already getting paid for. Not in the least surprised by the 75 cents he left on the table, I picked up the coins and followed him out the door. In front of other customers and his family I returned the pittance, explaining that "You obviously need it far worse than I do." His wife was embarrassed, he turned scarlett but kept his mouth shut. The oldest kids (maybe 14, 16) gave him the disgusted teenager look. In hindsight, I feel bad for the kids; they probably got another lecture.

And yes, that's deliberately uncapitalized.

Hopefully he or she will become recognized and have their food messed with next time. Treat people like shit, and they'll do that right back to the banker.

If every server (and presumably, cook, dishwasher, and bus-person) were to "get a real job", then where the hell will he get his meals? He'd no longer have the convenience of eating out during work hours, or for that matter, of treating clients to a good meal.

I hope the maitre d' tripped him on the way out.

Maybe what he needs for meal-choices is nothing more than a vending machine. He doesn't have to tip it, and he doesn't have to deal with real people. Problem solved!
