(1,628 posts)Those years were my rebel years. That's not a good attitude to have in the Marine Corp. But I knew where they stood.
Im wondering just how far this contaminated water issue goes. I was there during the time that they had this issue. I have some medical issues, but I don't know if those issues are directly related.

(4,033 posts)had 2 brothers born there in 1958 and 1960. I saw the film last month. My brothers and I had filled out all the paper work and surveys because we have all experienced health problems. The youngest brother was premature and has had a breast tumor removed a few years back.
I was born in 1956 in Massachusetts where my Dad was stationed. My oldest brother was born in 1952 in Florida where Dad was stationed.
The DVD is available through Amazon.com It's worth buying or seeing, especially if you've experienced health issues.

(33,028 posts)For thirty years, the drinking water at North Carolinas Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base
was highly contaminated by toxic chemicals, with some chemical levels at nearly 280 times
the legal amount. Years later, it is estimated that nearly one million Marines and their
families may have been exposed to extremely high levels of carcinogens through the water.
But even now, 25 years after the wells were finally closed, only a fraction of the former
residents are even aware of their exposure to the toxic chemicals.

(24,135 posts)I was talking to my stupid doctor a couple days ago - he's been posting right-wing garbage on Facebook. He said, he met a gas and oil guy who said there was 200 years worth of natural gas. I asked him if he knew how it was extracted and my stupid doctor said no.
I told him and then said, you know Marc - back in the days of Polio, (which I have) do you know how they thought it was spread? No, my stupid doctor said, he's young too! I said "water".
I'm dumping my doctor - I think I found a doctor who is compassionate and best of all, liberal. My young doctor thinks he's paying too much in taxes and people like me are not.
I can't wait until Monday to call the office of this new doc, who is also being targeted as an "abortionist" on a wingnut blog. That also makes me want to support him.

(24,135 posts)LARRY: You are such a petty little bitch. The Marine Corp has a RICH history of heroic deeds, and the only thing your pansy ass can find to write about, is tainted water. I see by the posts, that all 12 of your viewers saw this inept hunk of doo-doo, and ONE of them even liked it. You are pathetic. Even your fatter, LESS-gay sister Rosie would thank a marine (at least a drunk one...he might bang her).

(1,628 posts)I never knew about this. I'd like the community here and the press to continue with the flow of information regarding this topic.
I was on base and had a seizure in 1978. The first thing to hit the ground was my head. I never even once thought about the water. And with all the panic attacks that came after, i'm wondering.

(37,648 posts)That the govt would do that to all those service people. Horrible. How do those people live with themselves? What do they tell themselves at night, to enable them not to kill themselves for the horror that they've wreaked on others?
