Only reason why Romney spoke at the football stadium was because other venue sold out

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/romney-camp-not-to-blame-for-empty-stadium-organizers-say.php?ref=fpnewsfeed

Mitt Romney’s speech in front of a 98% empty football stadium was the result of a last minute security change, according to two highly placed officials with the event’s organizer, the Detroit Economic Club.

The stadium was only chosen after a smaller venue sold out. Beth Chappell, president and CEO of the group, told TPM that the new plan was to hold the event in the stadium’s atrium, which wouldn’t have had a panoramic view of the venue’s empty 65,000 seats, but that the security team — which included Secret Service, Detroit police, and Ford Field security — did not approve.

And so the Secret Serivce thought an Open FootBall stadium was a safer place?

in Spinal Tap:

Marty: The last time Tap toured America, they where booked into 10,000 seat arenas, and 15,000 seat venues, and it seems that now, on their current tour they're being booked into 1,200 seat arenas, 1,500 seat arenas, and I was just wondering, does this mean the popularity of the group is waning?

Ian: Oh, no, no, no, no, not at all. I just think that their appeal is becoming more selective.

Apparently Romney's appeal is also becoming more selective.

Duh!

Romney is the Spinal Tap of American politics. Yeah, not that talented, always changing styles, embarassing mistakes, started in the top ten, now circling the drain. "Big Caddies, My Girl's Got 'Em".

Well, according to this 2/8 ABC News.com report, the decision to book the stadium was made at least two weeks ago:

(A)...planned Romney speech to the Detroit Economic Club on Feb. 24 was moved from a hotel ballroom to Ford Field. The event, (Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak) said, “sold out in two hours.”

Either Schostak was misinformed, R-Money was lied to, or 63,800 people showed up disguised as empty seats!

Of course, the candidate does NOT have to listen to the Secret Service, and they just have to 'deal' with the campaign's wishes. All they can do is advise, they cannot demand.

I don't get why they even had to choose that venue at all....isn't there a damn civic auditorium, or even a high school gym, that would have worked in the area? That picture, though, is the frigging gift that keeps on giving. It hurts him, and it will continue to hurt him.

Images have power. RMoney took ten steps back today.
