Wyoming House advances doomsday bill

By JEREMY PELZER Star-Tribune capital bureau | Posted: Friday, February 24, 2012 6:00 pm

CHEYENNE — State representatives on Friday advanced legislation to launch a study into what Wyoming should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States.

House Bill 85 passed on first reading by a voice vote. It would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.

The task force would look at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed. And House members approved an amendment Friday by state Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie, to have the task force also examine conditions under which Wyoming would need to implement its own military draft, raise a standing army, and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier.

Whilst the 8 million people of New York City have roughly 15.

Or, 200,000 people in Wyoming share 1 vote, while 530,000 people in NYC have the same privilege.

Even if we don't like their politics. And as backwards as these states are sometimes accused of being, their electoral history shows that they actually tend to be more open minded to electing candidates from both parties than people assume.

The upper midwest, whatever it is about them, seem to have their shit together. From Nebraska through the Dakotas and Montana/Wyoming, they must have great people, great political leaders, or both. Low unemployment, job growth, budget surpluses, low crime rate, home prices didn't take nearly the hit the rest of the U.S. did. And with their oil production now, they could practically break off from the rest of the sinking U.S. and probably survive. Is there something they have that the rest of the states don't have? Or something the rest of the states have that they don't have?

this country to take an inventory and look at our preparedness for those emergency on the local basis. When I read to OP title I thought that might be what they were doing. I should have known better - they are rethugs. Not one mention of being prepared to meet a medical emergency or other such incident - oh no they want an aircraft carrier!

#1 in coal (close to 50% of the nation's output), #3 in natural gas, #8 in oil, top 10 in wind, #1 in uranium. Now, the whackjob fundie GOP of today being what it is, the decision to study protecting that sort of makes sense. If the nation ceases to exist, these resources are going to be gone after by population centers all over.
