The Virginia Wyoming candidate for Senate paid $220 to the Ninth Circuit Court on the charge of making a false statement to obtain a fishing license.
A citation/complaint ticket in the court file states that Cheney fail[ed] to meet residency requirements as required, according to the ticket signed by Wyoming Game and Fish Jackson Supervisor Tim Fuchs.
The citation alleges the infraction took place on or about 9:18 a.m. Aug. 3, 2012 at West Bank Anglers near Teton Village
Wyoming resident fishing and game licenses require the purchaser to sign a residency statement. It says Under penalty of prosecution I swear that the information given by me above and below my signature is true and correct. I swear under penalty of prosecution that I am a Wyoming resident as defined in WS 23-1-102 (a) and have domiciled in Wyoming for not less than one(1) year and have not claimed residence anywhere for any purpose during the one year immediately preceding the purchase of this license.
She has said that she did not know one was required to live in Wyoming for the immediately previous 365 days to qualify as a resident.
So you cant get a fishing license in a state youve barely lived in, but you can represent the people in that state in the U.S. Senate.

I mean, why go to all the rigmarole of establishing a resident status in another state if you didn't think you were going to "win?" Even if it meant stealing the election?

(135,425 posts)NY doesn't have a problem with carpetbaggers. They never have, so your point is just not taken The candidates come in and "barely live," and the citizens make their choice as they see fit.
Nothing wrong with following the rules laid down by the state....the problem comes when a candidate LIES to make it appear that they've been there longer than they have.
I think you knew that, though...

(15,189 posts)How long she's been living there. So ya see, it's that overpaid clerk that needs to be fired. He or she is lucky they are not facing the death penalty for embarrassing a Cheney. I'm sure her daddy will "fix" this for her, somehow.

(1,151 posts)maybe have an accident? That would look bad but I sure would not want to be that clerk who deliberately screwed up baby Cheney's fishin license.
she cant win what does she want? There is a plan. A plan to make some serious money. She must be a wedge to make sure some other candidate gets elected.

(3,617 posts)I think the writer of the article got it wrong. It is the 9th District of Wyoming that serves the Tetons (not the 9th Circuit). Appeals of District Court rulings in the area would then go to the 10th Circuit court of appeals.

(15,262 posts)Cheney was a resident of Texas, as was Bush, so they had to stall and fix that one to put him on the ticket.

(11,527 posts)My take on this is that she lied about residency to save a few dollars, because non-residents are charged a higher price for fishing licenses. She should have just paid the proper non-resident fee and saved all this trouble.

(50,566 posts)I looked it up...a resident Wyoming fishing license costs $24, a nonresident one costs $97.
Let's be real, tho: does that woman look like she fishes? This looks like she's trying to establish her woman-of-the-people creds by going on photo-op fishing trips.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)she moved to Wyoming, the state her father represented in the U.S. House during her formative years, to run for the U.S. Senate. I suppose she figured that since she was living in Wyoming at the time she bought the fishing license, she should buy the resident license. She did not read the fishing regulations before making that purchase.

Liz misses the details...not good....regardless of the excuse. She tries to blame the $12/hr clerk for her not reading the declaration? Makes Liz come across as a biggest asshole of the day.

(18,657 posts)Sounds like somebody in Wyoming doesn't want her to play games with her residency. She has to choose just one state to live in, and I'll bet there are many who don't want that to be Wyoming. Apparently she doesn't think she stands a chance in Virginia politics.
I hope she doesn't try hanging her witch's hat in Ohio.

Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)So I have some credibility here...
First of all the fact that she, an attorney, did not know the requirements is absolutely no excuse.
Second, while Wyoming residents are generally fairly libertarian, I doubt the fact she is a lesbian will be well received. As a gay man I welcome her interest in politics but suggest this state may not be the most ideal
Third, she is behaving like a carpetbagger. If she cannot win in more populous states she carpetbags herself into Wyoming with which she has no "meaningful" ties solely for political purposes is a sham. She should be run out of town
Hopefully enough Wyoming residents, repukkkes and Democrats alike will recognize this and discard her.

As for "CHEENEE," that is the native/correct pronunciation. I was watching Tweety several years ago when ex-Senator/Always-pain-in-the-neck Alan SIMPSON told Tweety that he/SIMPSON is a personal friend of CHEENEE's of most if not all of their lives and that CHEENEE is how the CHEENEE family pronounced it back when they really were legal residents in wherever the f*** they were from, and ever since then Tweety has been pronouncing it that way, and my adoption of it is just the sight-jarring way to ridicule/denigrate, despite that correct pronunciation is not really an act of ridicule/denigration.
But back to MY point: My peeve about posting things that sink immediately only to see the same item posted later to tons of success is something that happens daily on an internet board, and not unique to me although there is a tinge of taking it personally when it happens to one personally. It's a matter of one's putting in, say, 45 minutes of cutting/pasting, or worse/ORIGINALITY, editing, highlighting, sometimes adding graphics --- then seeing it sink only to see the topic posted way more claque-illy.
So, no, it's not a matter of the victim's being blamed, but thanks.

(49,047 posts)... there seems little cure for that except for trickery and outrageous exploitation of FUD: fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
The predominant use of trickery seems to be the deceptive title tactic. An example of course would be titling a thread something like "Liz Cheney (Chenee) is my friend" and then immediately below put in the text "NOT".
Predominant use of FUD is to post some over-the-top rant, like "The Manning verdict ends civilization now!".
Another tactic is to post an obscure title that makes it seem as if the reader would be very dull if they don't get the DU context for this topic and thus hook in readers who want to be part of the in / cool / hip crowd.
